“From Blue Sky: Bierstadt, Grays & Torreys” 24”x36”, acrylic on canvas. Finished tonight, this view along the ridge between Mt. Blue Sky and Mt. Bierstadt, 50-ish miles W of Denver, CO. Halfway through, I wasn’t sure but I think I’ve come around. Please let me know what you think. #painting #fineart

Well, that took a lot of paint…

1) Tin Roof, Washoe County
20”x24”, acrylic/canvas.

2) Downside of acrylic: it dries fast (good on canvas, but frustrating on the palette). This would be a mess to scrape now so I’ll let it dry for a few days.

For an artist’s account, I don’t post all that much art—figure it’s time to start. Untitled work on the easel, not quite done. 36”x24”, acrylic/canvas. Northern end of Taylor Park, Gunnison County, CO. #painting #fineart #Colorado #landscapepainting #acrylicpainting

Know how many times over the past 3 yrs I’ve been notified that there’s been a break-in at my bank, Dr’s, or a govt office & someone’s stolen my files? Zero. Number of online data breaches? Today makes thirty. Seriously, fuck your “online convenience”—I’ll fill out your paperwork when I get there.

High Desert Snowstorm with Joshua Trees, 10“ x 10“, acrylic on canvas. A few details + my limited (for me) palette. Happy w/the the lighter values on the Joshua trees in the background. Sometimes things turn out the way you intend. Based on a circa 2001 photo when I spent a winter working in SoCal.

Anyoneone else sick of Ai intruding on every single online activity? No, I don’t want Ai to re-write my email—I got it right the first time and anyway, you suck except as a way to assemble raw intelligence that has to be scrubbed for hallucinations and other fuckups.

First pass/rough-in. I usually do a LOT of under-drawing but this time, for whatever reason, I just started painting. Barely underway; much more to do—I think. No real idea where this one’s going at the moment. Kind of liberating, tho. #art #painting #acrylicpainting #landscapepainting #westernart

Guess who used up the last legal pad (and I use them up completely, front & back) right before a notary-public renewal training?

Birds planted sunflowers in our back yard a few years ago. Tallest one among this year’s patch toppled in high winds 2 days ago, so, a free, late-summer bouquet. Thank you, birds long gone, for flowers & the message: go make something beautiful that’ll outlive you. #art #artist #summer #colorado

Nighttime lighting in my studio/office is really yellow so the colors are washed out in this photo, but I’m happy with how this one turned out: “Exchequer Consolidated Mine, Winter,” 30”x30”, acrylic on canvas.

Haven’t painted much lately (too much going on at work) so this is my first finished piece in months: “Mine Buildings & Frozen Pond, Gilpin County, CO,” 30”x30”, acrylic on canvas. Who knows when this will be up on my website? Enjoy a tiny version here first… #art #painting #landscapepainting

“Autumn Basin, Colorado,” 20” x 20” acrylic/canvas. I love intense shadows that take time for your eyes to organize whatever’s inside them, whatever’s concealed—it’s usually a lot.

Absolutely LOVE this caricature-series of Hollywood’s Silent Era pioneers by mystersphinx.bsky.social Oh, these faces! Of course the film industry was janky then, too, but these forgotten stars radiate an open earnestness you don’t see much anymore.
Forgotten Film Pioneer Series: Florence La Badie (1888-1917) major American-Canadian actress. 196 known silent films. Died at 29 at the peak of her career in a car accident. Caricature by Myster Sphinx #silentmovie #hollywood #cinema #silverscreen #caricature #gelpen #icon #leadinglady #filmhistory

“Gardner Lake on the Beartooth Plateau, Park Co., WY,” 10” x 10” acrylic/canvas. Rainy days at high elevation (10,000’ in this case) can make for tough driving/hiking, but they’re often great for painting.

“Rabbitbrush & Emigrant Peak, Park County, MT,” 18” x 24” acrylic on canvas. In MT for my sister’s wedding a couple years ago, her friends took me to a full-on Western movie-set they’d built. This is the view east (+1 of the set).

“Upper Forest Canyon from Trail Ridge, RMNP, CO” - 24” x 36” acrylic on canvas. SOLD, Pvt. collection. Commissioned piece; patron wanted a CO mountain vista in a more-realistic style. Photo’s lousy, but the paint is really thick. #Painting #Art #NationalParks #LandscapePainting #Mountains #Colorado

Not sure why but whenever I’m putting food in his bowl/refilling his water over the sink, my guy feels that’s the best time to slide on through and see what’s doing. Glad I’m tall enough/he’s short enough that there isn’t any significant contact with the uncomfortables… #dog #dogs #dogsofbluesky

Beautiful drive for work between Moab, UT, and Denver today, despite rockfall and a blown tire on a narrow mtn hwy between La Sal, UT, and Paradox, CO. Still, I did pull over to photograph & sketch fairly often, so I have lots of painting to do. #art #painting #landscapepainting #colorado #utah
