Biological anthropologist. Demographer. Human behavioral ecologist. I study reproductive outcomes, parental care, contraceptive usage, low fertility, age at first birth, paternity confidence, and other arcane subjects.
I got my flu shot!

(I think 80% of my students have already been sick with something this semester, so I'm happy to have this protection.)

Another entry in the "minor distraction from all the terrible stuff going on" category: About 115 years ago, Argentine composer Julio Sagreras wrote this little mazurka for his baby sister, Maria Luisa. (He had 9 siblings, but this is his only piece named after one of them.)

This is a real photo from 1913. It hasn’t been colorized. It was made using a technique called the Autochrome Lumière which captured true color using microscopic dyed starch grains as color filters, decades before color film existed. Pretty incredible, no? More below 👇

Just for a change of pace from all the terrible stuff going on, here's me playing a Mozart tune, arranged by Paganini for guitar around 1820. (Caveat: some pretty terrible stuff goes on in Don Giovanni too.)
