Every big tech company is attempting to normalize some form of always listening, recording, and/or watching. It’s the only way to sell a product that people largely don’t want but companies are heavily invested in.
So far, Apple has been slow on pushing AI features. But that also appears poised to change under Ternus, starting with a new set of Apple Watch features that necessitate it constantly listening to you and the people around you.

yeah, this stuff is far from my area of expertise, but i have yet to see anyone convincingly explain how the causal chain is supposed to operate here. it feels like the "AI will kill us all people" spent too much time watching Terminator 2 and the Animatrix.
The U.S. AI industry is being run by a batshit rationalist sex cult, and no, I am not being hyperbolic - they’re genuinely Like That:

Just saw someone saying that Breath of the Wild is old enough now that there are adults for whom that would have been their childhood Zelda.

Time is stupid.

The potential downside of the focus on Flock is that people don’t recognize it as a singular entity within an entire landscape of companies creating the surveillance state.
As Flock battles public scrutiny, other police surveillance companies see an opening
Dozens of cities have canceled their contracts with Flock. Some are switching to other companies, but privacy experts say they're no better than Flock.

killing the earth to consolidate wealth for like four to 10 people can elicit moral panic im okay with that
Interesting @jeremiahdjohns.bsky.social piece on the dogmatism of the "Believe Science" crew who publicly proclaim their fidelity to science while not practicing what they preach, including falling victim to the anti-AI moral panic www.theargumentmag.com/p/the-heresy...

Once again: AI is, non-metaphorically, a religion. These people believe in a fundamentalist way that they're a chosen people—so they can do whatever the fuck they want to do. The present-day impact of your actions on others doesn't matter when you're infallibly chosen as Savior in the World to Come

there's 5 main reasons they want you to think AI is now self-aware and "goes rogue"

1. product marketing misrepresentation
2. props up insane valuations for a sector not making money
3. scares lawmakers into trash legislation
4. distracts from technofascism
5. distances execs from accountability

Bernie hasn't tried this on here yet but here he is doing free marketing for OpenAI.

He has been captured by the worst people in AI for a few years now and has been parroting company hype talking points instead of guarding against them. It’s like the public is being assaulted from all sides.
