Really interesting piece. I'd also recommend Alan MacEachern's book on the 'Miramichi' Fire of 1825 (covering some 6000 sq miles, it also burnt parts of the U.S.), an excellent piece of environmental history on a monstrous fire: www.mqup.ca/Books/T/The-...
