Yesterday (in Amsterdam) an older lady came up to me while waiting for the ferry and asked me a question in Dutch. When I told her I don’t speak Dutch, she seemed truly shocked and a little disappointed with me because she said “You don’t speak Dutch? That’s a pity.”
