Hold My Heart -- Out now

A serial killer story that takes a sharp turn into the weird and never comes back.

Hailey Piper: "Seductive to the core. Hold My Heart is an intriguing thrill, its world tinged with noir atmosphere and a passion for grime on skin and tongues on blades."
I finally realized why all ebooks are more expensive than paperback books for me. VAT. The paperback books get charged at customs, the ebooks on purchase.

I’ve been going crazy over this for a year: why are all ebooks more expensive than paperbacks and some more expensive than hardback.

Taxes.

It's October, time for some scary reads.

Reminder that I have an erotic horror, set in Bulgaria, featuring Bulgarian mythology, polyamory, and BDSM:

Serial Killers AND cults? Oh my!

Getting my hands on A Thousand Natural Shocks has been a real quest this year. The e-book is not for sale internationally, and I couldn't find any booksellers who could import it to Bulgaria. I even wrote to the publisher, seeing if there was any international shop that had an e-book. No dice. It was frustrating. I was like "take my money, give me the book!" but there was no way to get it.

The Faceless Thing We Adore x A Thousand Natural Shocks

TrueTone is more than an image filter. It strips you down and layers on your personal data. One image, and you can know a stranger intimately. Authentically. Some people don't like what they see, though.

TrueTone will reveal the real you.

But if you want to be on the cutting edge, you need to go for the full conversion. Let it strip your skin. Reveal your muscles and blood. Cover you with a tattoo of your innermost desires.

Just a usual day in persona management.

TrueTone is:

a bi woman struggling through the shame of desire, pain of need, and fear of addiction.

a gritty San Francisco taken over by AI companies obsessed with perception management.

the slow decay of our world accelerated by an interdimensional force

Christi wants:
- her ex-girlfriend back
- a promotion that will let her stay in San Francisco
- her boss to stop hitting on her

Christi gets:
- weird meditation tactics that can slow time
- a murderous interdimensional being that wants to strip humanity of its skin

Christi wants to make the world a better place — so she agrees to host an inter dimensional being that will grant her the power and influence to change the world. Only problem is their definitions of “better” might differ.

The book I’m working on is done… working on the synopsis and query letter. The worst parts. But at least I have its kick-ass playlist to get me through it.

I'm so excited that my story, "Five Impossible Things" (originally in Clarkesworld) will be included in Think Weirder Volume 2.

I've been in novel land, not working on many shorts lately, and it is weirdly nice to be sitting here, once again wondering who I'll share a TOC with.

Happy September 15th. Kids are back to school, the weathers cool, and the writing’s good.

On Proving I'm Not AI - Koji A Dae
The world changes so quickly. When I was in second grade, I wrote my first story in pencil on newsprint handwriting paper. I was sent to the principal to read it to him. I can’t even remember what it ...

We talk about the harm of AI a lot... and I just wanted to point out that even if there's no ethical dilemma, there's still harm. At this point I can't differentiate between any clubs in my time. I used to open Facebook and know exactly who was hosting an event by the flier. Now I have no clue.

MAKE TIRED-ASS AI FICTION AGAIN🚫🤖

The only jack-holes claiming AI is "inevitable" are loser tech-bros who've already tied their entire identity to it & hopelessly untalented slop hacks.

Surely if they say it often enough it'll come true, right?!

Keep the existential AI threats ON THE PAGE⬇️

Lately I've been investigating noir as a genre. In conversation this came up:

Noir is to horror as romance is to erotica.

True? Not true? Will see. But I like it as a jumping off point.

I just read >dear stupid penpal by rascal hartley this weekend. It was so unexpectedly delightful. Like... existential dread and and an examination of time and life and love, sure, but also... heartwarming squee.

Loved it.

AI sucks.

Gdocs used to have a really useful grammar check... it often caught when I used the wrong word or misspelled something. Now, every three sentences it is suggesting I use past tense.

I write 90% of my stories in present tense.

It is becoming more of a hinderance than a tool.

I'm a discovery writer. I might have some idea of plot, but my final product will look nothing like that "outline". My joy in writing comes from the discovery -- of the story, yes, but also of myself. I love those moments when I make a connection between two events in my past or two concepts.

Returned from vacation... my sister-in-law had bought the trees I asked for and they were loaded in our car for the trip home... but our luggage wouldn't fit with them... so I got to cuddle a pomegranate yearling for three hours on the ride home.

The things authors do for our writing.
