"Be scared."

Well worth the early start this morning to engage with The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine to discuss Implications of AI for Cybersecurity.

Do 'e' and VTOL, certainly full-scale aircraft, really go together yet?

In addition to the power-to-weight challenges, any widespread e-systems will rely on a total rethink and potentially rebuild of supporting infrastructure.

Issues of teaming remain extant...

We would never get away with this "just give it a go" in the air.

Amazing that people think that coz we can walk, sore feet are the sole consequence of a land-based unmanned/remote system failing.

Atomic power definitely has its place.

Many #MUMT relationships in the future will need exceptional endurance and reliability.

Thinking especially of space as one of our core operating domains*.

*along with air, maritime, land and cyber..
Atomics aren't going anywhere out of existence unless you want to end deep space exploration, research, virgin steel production, and medical isotopes which most of the world's supply comes from Canada's 16 CANDU reactors (that also burn MOX from decommissioned nuclear weapons)
SMRs don't exist.

We just went through this in Oz - see link in my pinned post.

A fossil fuel-mining funded #AtlasNetwork disinfo operation to distract from far superior, non-polluting & far cheaper ACTUALLY EXISTING solar/wind/battery/EV solutions that will end oil, gas, coal nukes forever.

This is great to see.

Not just as another scholarly contribution the greater pool of knowledge but as a Kiwi-produced work.

Despite many Kiwis working in the irregular/alt domain, IMHO we don't see enough works like this....
Been off Bluesky for a while - but a few weeks ago I did a thing - doctoral thesis submitted! Now to wait out the marking and defence phases. 🙏To everyone who helped me get to this finish line: 😇 Once the ink is dry, I’ll name and shame you all properly. You know who you are—thank you! 🎓🇳🇿

This article by Aussie's Mick Ryan illustrates a major challenge in modern militaries: that of 20/20 hindsight and forward-facing myopia.

New conflicts should not need a major arse-kicking to drive adaptation and learning...

Today, my new report on the systemic learning disorder in western military organisations - their inability to learn and adapt quickly from other people’s wars - is published by the Lowy Institute.

Modern war and the systemic learning deficit in Western military institutions
Battlefield evidence is everywhere. The will to act on it is the missing Western capability.

It would be interesting to know if the psychological impact of these low-speed very visible and apparently untouchable strike drones is factored into their design and employment?
