“Please can you ensure Student knows what they’re getting a warning for as they feel targeted.”

So, saying “I’m sorry, Student but that’s your warning as you’re still talking/running about/swearing at me” isn’t clear enough?

Me: “Really struggling with this kid. HoY has parent meeting”’

Colleague: “That reminds me; I need to tell HoY how great they are for me”

I’m going to go as far and say one of my year 7 classes is unteachable

Some schools are mandating the use of AI for marking to ‘save time’.

Not sure I like where this is heading. I’m not a Luddite but there’s lots of issues I feel.

And the obvious, impending robot take over (let them have my Yr 7s 🤣)

“What do you mean ‘they can just use and improve last year’s lessons’ ? Nah, can’t have that. Then all they’d be doing is teaching!”
I don’t know how we got to a point as a profession where we think it’s perfectly ok to keep starting making lessons from scratch every year.

I don’t know how to word it, but it feels like the teaching part of our job is the only thing that’s recognised and we’re not allowed any down time.

Ahh, the old chestnut of “If we didn’t see it happen, we’re assuming it doesn’t happen at all” MWB Edition.

When you mandate things based on what you’re not seeing in a 5 min visit you lose all rich, organic learning.

Teaching becomes performative and predictable…and ultimately boring.

I feel bad for the year 7 today who popped off when doing an end of topic test for a short topic.

He’s been on holiday - was only in for 3 days at the start of the year and hasn’t a clue what’s going on.

Bit they don’t miss anything important, so…

I have a two week half term. Decided I want to go to NHM for my birthday, which is a weekday, to avoid the weekend crowds.

Train: £60 with a railcard. Diabolical.

Hot take for the day:

Cover lessons and non-science subjects should not be in science labs.

Never stopped buying DVDs or Blurays. I knew what would happen the moment Netflix switched to streamin. Films and shows *still* geographically restricted and subject to licensing. Shows split over streaming services, meaning x subscriptions needed.

Year 7:

What’s going on that they’re saying to me “I don’t have enough room on my page” and “should I turn the page?”

This is my 16th year of teaching and I still can’t work it out

It isn’t just OFSTED that increases workload and expectations of staff.

External MAT leaders, county advisors and anyone else schools tend to parade round do too. Particularly if you’re trying to improve.

The ‘Oh,I like/don’t like that…’ puts pressure on staff and almost always unnecessarily so.

Last Street Cat rant.

What became apparent, over the course of yesterday, was how the men (Older Gen X and Boomers) did not like their wives talking to each other.

They were intimidated by the support and collaboration we demonstrated.

I then got sent this by a female neighbour.

Street cat and kittens update:

The men are very angry. They can’t or won’t take charge but don’t like it that I am, and apparently I’m ’off my meds’.

Why do they have to resort to comments like that?

First full day back today.

Been at current school 2 years (2 YEARS!!!).

Doesn’t matter how I feel about the politics or system, the kids are ✨it✨

The visits I’ve had off kids who just wanted to pop in; the delighted faces at being on my class again.

Oh, in my OG post I’d also said I’d hadn’t been able to get them out of the garage and was looking for ideas.

Dozens of people replied saying the could ‘come and collect them now’.

I don’t think FB people read…
Spent the weekend trying to rescue an abandoned domestic and her kittens from a junk filled garage (saga from earlier in summer).

Made terrible mistake of posting to some FB groups detailing who’d I’d called for help.

Cue multiple replies with “Have you tried X?” The same Xs I’d mentioned…1/2

Been using my symbol cane for two weeks and it’s very apparent very few people don’t know what it is.

Because I’d be bumbling around with a white cane for no reason.
