When a tree dies it goes through a long process of decomposition, changing in character as it does so. The wood is golden, then white. Sometimes the center of the tree rots away first and other times it is the last thing remaining. This tree made a helix stretching into the sky

When we talk about landscape photography we talk about the wide vistas looking across mountains going off into the distance. But we are also talking about the details. Pine cones and flowers. My favorite of all, dead trees!

This is a wonderful story if you like Ray Bradbury
This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic.

High in the mountains It is difficult to get up in time to capture the sunrise. Cold air makes me want to stay in bed! But I got up. Got down to the water in time. The sunlight moved down the mountainside surprisingly quickly!
I may never go back to this spud again, but I have my memories.

The Eastern Sierra is just about as scenic as can be!
I have been photographing it for many years, but a couple of years ago I got some of my favorite images. These are available on my website at tahoephotography.net

We had a power outage in North Tahoe because of the fire in Reno. It started just before noon on Saturday and 6 hours later the power was out!

My place in the Sierra Nevada is at about a 7100 ft elevation. It's cooler so rattlers are typically hibernating (brumation technically) even into July. This year, not so. I started seeing a few in early June! And now, there are A LOT OF THEM!!!

Thousands of people evacuated from their homes. Hundreds of homes lost. And over 190,000 acres burned in southern and central Colorado.

Our hearts go out to everybody affected by the fires. We won’t stop fighting to help our firefighters get the resources they need to continue containing them.
