BlueSky reboot. Needed to purge my feed from being almost entirely polemical American politics. (Note: NOT apolitical, but need a respite.) Like: food, linguistics, metal music, mental health, giallo films. 🏳‍🌈🏴🚩
Spontaneous tattoo soon. The concept for it has been in mind for some time, but getting it done today was just a fortuitous open schedule by an artist who's done work on me before.

"The Social District?" What the fuck does that mean? Whatever it is, it comes off as elitist. And kinda dumb because Ypsilanti doesn't exactly have neighborhoods/districts. It's too small.

Downtown and Depot Town are the only places I know of with a commercial and cultural hub.

If you don't love Neve Campbell in Scream, here's why you should: she's smart. Not the first, but really plays up the logical protagonist well. She calls the cops.

The cops are ineffective and just murder fodder, but that's a slasher staple, but she goes straight to it.

My other favorite movie is Hush. Have you seen it? It is dark and while I don't want to give spoiler, this bitch is boss. It's so good. The only other movie I think comes close is "Prey" which will also wreck you on how badass the protagonist is.

You will never be as badass as her. She is the best "final girl" and there isn't a comparison.

My friend's name is Neemah, which is Arabic for Grace. When I wanted to have a girl the name my "would be wife" and I picked was "Grace." My "then would be wife" used to cry in the idea of naming our girl "Gracie." I beg you to cry.

There's a horrible prejudice by transphobes who think the only reason to be supportive is for sex. One of my best friends in college came out trans. At the time, I didn't know, but when he did I can't also say I was surprised. One of our favorite moments together was watching The Philadelphia Story

To get trained and certified to do public mental health work in the community takes less or about as much time that it takes to become an ICE agent and shoot people. Community workers work tirelessly to bring dangerous people into ways they can change. ICE teaches them how to shoot people.

One of my favorite little bits. This is a portrait of my friend Käthe. She was very fond of bears and we used to head out for a few often enough. So I drew her next to a couple of bears. I love the bear on the right. He's definitely having a great time.

This is another favorite piece of art that I've done. I know superficially it's a bit ugly. The point of it is I would trace circles and then make small doodles around the edge, and move in a spiral.

If you grew up when I did the common dish was something they called pizza. It was terrible. It was the cheapest meat on the most terrible bread with something they called tomato and called cheese.

One of those weird things I don't get about gay men. I want to fall in love. I want a cute boyfriend that I can travel around with and brag about. I hate flings. Cuddle on the couch, you know.
July 21, 2026 at 6:43 PM
The most gay moment is I was with a girlfiend (so already, incredibly not gay) in Dallas (Texas is... actually pretty gay.) I was going to a gay club with my girl, and the dude at the counter was like "oh, I bet he's a size" whip it out on the counter! It was a joke. No. That doesn't happen.

How to drag queen. If at first you don't succeed, try a "dusky" voice works for me. You see straight guys going flushed, running your hands up their legs helps. "How are you?" Give a wink. There's no shortage of queers, we're not trying to drag you in, we're just trying to be helpful. 😘

If you know someone who is trans, maybe a coworker, maybe that person you went to high school with, speak out. The difficulty of coming out isn't the process so much as the reaction. You don't know. My trans friends never knew I would accept them. I wasn't so outspoken. I am now.
July 21, 2026 at 5:51 PM
I am not against lies. Sometimes they serve a greater purpose and I also just fumbled into talk of being transgender. If you are trans, I hope you will lie about it. Not always, but only to a point where you can be safe. As someone with a depressive disorder, lying was a means of defense.

I don't want you to be a man. I don't want you to be a woman. I just want you to be happy and free.

I know what I am. And I can tell you and I'm happy and free to do so. And if you're so inclined, tell me who you are. I will listen and I will believe you and your story.

I believe in stories.

Films that have fucked me up: Raw, Funny Games, Martyrs, Irreversible (that one scene, which I would petition you to skip), Cutting Moments, Melancholia, Kids.

I'm not a Marxist. That said, there's probably a very short list of persons who have been more influential in how I think and what I do than Karl Marx. He's also one of the most misunderstood people in history.

So there is good news. Trump is going to die. FBI, relax, I don't mean someone is going to assassinate him. I have too much respect for bullets for that. But he's old, and not in great health. But who will replace him?

Mitch Mc... nevermind. J.D. "couch lover?" Kash Patel is out for sure.

I am curious to know if "kick flip" is a common term. I played soccer/football since I was a kid and into my college years, and a kick flip is when you push a ball into the air with your feet. You flip it.

It's like juggling. It's mostly a way to practice foot control but has no real use in games.

Finally getting around to hanging up a photo of my grandfather (maternal.) What a great man. One of my favorite parts of being a kid was going with him to pick strawberries and listening to him whistle. When I was smaller I could also ride on his shoulders. He was a WWII vet of the Armia Krajowa.

My problem with Frozen is that I still prefer drawn animation. I mean if there is one Disney princess who I love to sing with it's obviously Ariel. www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXKl...

I had got to asking myself why I am so in favor of female protagonists, but then I got to thinking of two of my favorite movies growing up: Alien and The Empire Strikes Back.

The picture gets clearer.

The first horror movie I know I ever watched, I watched with my dad and that was Alien. To this day I don't know what my dad was thinking or where the hell was my mom. But I LOVED it. I am still a Ripley stan. As movie protagonists go my first is obviously @markhamillofficial.bsky.social Luke.
