🌾🌱 RESEARCH 🌱🌾

In a durum wheat mixture, increased susceptibility to Septoria tritici blotch is linked to delayed defense response induction, probably triggered by early root competition resulting from contrasting root architectures - Mathieu et al.

Our study on the evolution of shade avoidance, a "selfish trait" in plants, over 80 years of soybean breeding history. Led by @lukecoevo.bsky.social and Emanuel Kopp, and published here: doi.org/10.1111/eva..... Great stuff!
Shade Avoidance Restricts Soybean Breeding Progress and Increases Herbivore Susceptibility
High planting densities expose field crops to competition for light, which typically induces shade avoidance responses such as stem elongation. While adaptive in natural environments, these responses...

Girls are drawing more and more women when asked to draw a scientist.

How much more proof do we need? When children see women in science, they imagine women in science. 👩🧪💡

And of course, this doesn’t apply just to scientists!
When asked to draw a scientist, school-age kids in the United States are increasingly sketching women, according to a study from 2018.

Thrilled to share that the first chapter of my PhD thesis has just been published!

Our study shows that interactions between wheat varieties can modulate both the mean and variance of susceptibility to Septoria tritici blotch. 🌱↔️🌱
