Second infusion tomorrow. It's one of those things where the good news is that now we know what to expect. And the bad news is now we know what to expect.

Hey, a protip from me. When someone is dealing with cancer, and you are like "I will help by doing XYZ," and they say, "thanks, but we only want Z, no X and Y, please" ...

Do not fucking argue with them about it.

I mean.

What.

No endoscopic biopsy tomorrow on account of mild cold. Not great, but I'm also kind of relieved? Like my brain can mostly compartmentalize these things until the actual scan or biopsy or whatever happens, but then the wait for results is...not great.

I'm not a fan of "think about all the people who have it worse than you" but I'll say this, spending a lot of time in a cancer center and today with a transplant surgeon (she doesn't need a transplant, he's just the guy who knows about a very niche thing) does provide some perspective.

Another hideous stressful and awful thing is now happening and apparently my body has maxed out. Like I can't sustain another stress response.
September 16, 2026 at 10:55 PM
First infusion is in. 28* to go.

*"Only" the first 16 are chemo but yeah, it's a lot.

Cb got many pokemon cards for his birthday yesterday. He told me tonight that he is imagining all his pokemon shrinking down and going inside Ma's body and all doing their damage attacks to kill the cancer.

Pour one out for Benedict Tiberius Cat. Gentleman, scholar, raconteur, chonk. He loved himself most of all, me a distant second, and everyone else could be useful sometimes.
September 11, 2026 at 11:16 PM
Come on universe, just give us this one. We deserve a good scan of this other random thing *that is absolutely not cancer, universe, so help me*, and that's totally how good and bad fortune are distributed, right.

Why yes, I am at the bargaining stage why do you ask
September 11, 2026 at 12:34 PM
"Oh sure," said our insurance. "A quarter million dollars in chemo and antibody drug conjugates? No problem. What's that? You want a single CT to investigate an odd incidental finding on staging scans? Yeah, no, fock off."
September 11, 2026 at 12:48 AM
So. Benny's got a few days left, probably. Likely leukemia.

Idk why I held it together telling Cb his mom has cancer, but absolutely did not when telling him this.
September 10, 2026 at 12:39 AM
JFC this coming week. Heart echo, chemo class, radiation onc meeting, Cb's birthday, school friend party, out of town guest, major plumbing work, oh yeah and my actual job where it is 60 days until election day and shit is on.

The hair is buzzed. I'd say her body is ready but, I mean, is anyone's body ever ready for this?
September 5, 2026 at 6:40 PM
Totally unhinged how it's like "oh hey you have cancer, sorry about that, anyway, prepare to exert as much executive function in a month as you normally do in a year in order to herd all the cats and manage the 17 providers and 14 thousand treatments, what do you mean this is not a good time."
September 2, 2026 at 10:21 PM
The list of things that really need to happen before chemo starts keeps getting longer, not shorter, even while we sprint flat out, it feels like.
August 29, 2026 at 4:28 PM
When you go from defcon 1 to defcon 2 in terms of stress levels and it feels like this huge relief even though things are, objectively, still fucking awful.
August 26, 2026 at 10:41 PM
I find it tolerable to wait for scan results over the weekend. And we are trying to stay busy. But come Monday morning, lordy. The radiologist could be looking at them right now.
August 24, 2026 at 5:36 PM
I had to tell work about the stuff that is happening, and everyone was kind and gracious even though we are less than 90 days from the election and my brain is on walkabout.

Of course now I feel compelled to prove I am the best and unflappable and can manage just fine, which is super unhelpful.

Tfw the order is for an urgent MRI and it was specifically sent to the scheduler who can jump the line, and they schedule the MRI for...wait for it...October.

Made it through the hardest parenting conversation we've ever had. It went okay. He doesn't get it, really, but now he knows.
August 17, 2026 at 2:22 PM
tfw the dental assistant is perkily like, "hey, how's your summer going?" and you're like "oh fine, busy," sounding normal, while on the inside you are just primal screaming.
August 14, 2026 at 12:33 AM
Oh no. My kid is has-no-access-to-social-media-and-yet-is-somehow-aware-of-tiktok-trends years old.
August 1, 2026 at 7:51 PM
I used to be so chill about kid nutrition. He doesn't eat something? Whatever, there's always another meal, he's listening to his body.

Then he got sick and didn't get better and fell off the growth curve.

There is no chill. I am doing all the terrible bargaining/bribing I thought I was so above
July 30, 2026 at 11:41 PM
I was like why am I so worn out, and then I was like um because this summer has been so hard and it just keeps escalating? It started stealthy stressful and keeps piling on. We'll find out in a week or so if things will resolve or turn sharp left into much, much worse.

I am 3 antihistamines deep today. Will we get to 4? Do I hear a 4?
