don't let the cute hed fool you, this is a cut down version of a much, much longer article that took nearly 6 months to report out.
Two years ago, Eldritch Automata successfully crowdfunded production of its core book, plus patches and dice. Last week, it did it again. The journey the game -- and its author -- went on to bring E//A to life spans five years, two companies, and dozens of unanswered emails.
Eldritch Automata rises from the wreckage
After Gehenna Gaming failed to deliver on the author’s original crowdfunding campaign, Nick Francia has launched a rescue campaign.

I could not explain to you why I, a person who was in Buffy fandom while the show was airing in the 90s, had never seen The Lost Boys until a few weeks ago, but don't worry—this has been rectified. Delightful conversation with @lincodega.com!!!
Just in time for Halloween, our October special episode is live! 🧛🏼 @lincodega.com joins @elizabethminkel.bsky.social to discuss themes of masculinity, homoeroticism, and vampires in Joel Schumacher's 1987 classic "The Lost Boys."

"Tropes represent a shared cultural language, but in my most cynical moments, it can feel like they’re the only words people are saying to each other."

this is excellent and does a great job of capturing what's new (and what isn't) about the tropeification of pro-publishing.
Our latest is live! ✨ Almost exactly 10 years after our big fanfiction tropes survey, @elizabethminkel.bsky.social looked back at the results—and was struck by just how much has changed around tropes since then. Featuring interviews with the brilliant @oliviawaite.com and @dianapho.bsky.social:

Really loved the conversation I had with @elizabethminkel.bsky.social about the use of tropes in SFF and returning to my love of fanfic. 📚
It's been 10 years & 1 day since @flourishklink.com and I published the results of our big survey on fanfic tropes. Revisiting it, I started to think about the tropefication of the past decade—what it's done to fic, romance, and SFF. Featuring the wisdom of @oliviawaite.com & @dianapho.bsky.social!

the most shocking thing about You Can See Everything is the apparently deliberate withholding of the fact that BILLY EVANS AND ELIZABETH HOLMES ARE NOT MARRIED.

Me and the woman I sat next to while watching You Can See Everything just had a spiritual bond as we simultaneously gasped, covered our faces and laughed nervously throughout the entire movie experience

For Fansplaining I wrote about Jane Austen fic, aka JAFF, and how a moderating decision 30 years ago set the tone for an entire fan culture of genre-shaming and gatekeeping around content.

Also don't forget Fansplaining is currently having a six-month sale with 50% off! Subscribe, read, and share!
Folks who look at fic often treat the big archives as wholly representative, but there are so many subcultures within our subculture. @bookshop.bsky.social reports a fascinating story about rigid content moderation, self-publishing, and what happens when the wide-open spaces of fic are constrained:
Pride and Prejudice in the Jane Austen Fanfic Community
A 30-year-old moderating decision still defines the Austen fic fandom’s identity.
