The annual Thirlmere Festival of Steam was held at the NSW rail museum over the weekend, with a variety of heritage steam locomotives out on display and hauling runs toward Buxton or Picton.

3526 ("The Nanny") was out on the rails over the weekend, running laps between Hornsby and Rhodes on the T9.

After almost 56 years in service, the last V set revenue service ran on 30 Jan from Lithgow to Central, an eight car set of V25 and V10. The ends of the train were painted its the original "Blue Goose" livery and was greeted at Central by crowds of train enthusiasts

A new orange, silver and black double decker "Mariyung" intercity train traveling along tracks on a causeway next to Mullet Creek. The tracks are curved, with only the first and a bit of the second carriage visible as the train is approaching the camera on the further of two tracks. Overhead wires are visible and a rusted gantry can be seen behind the train. The background is forested and there are hills. The sky is a dull clear colour.

A steel double-decker 8-car suburban "Tangara" train with a yellow and black front, and yellow doors passes under an overhead wire gantry on the centre right track out of four tracks. The red target plate on the front of the train indicates T97 while the destination board is empty, presumably broken. Some short buildings can be seen to the left and right of the rail corridor with some light graffiti. The sky is a light blue colour with some clouds and the lighting is that of a sunset from the left.

The rear of an orange, silver and black double-decker intercity Mariyung train on the left track, departing the small station of Wondabyne, with some other silver and black carriages visible as it curves further down the tracks. Two tracks with concrete sleepers and gravel ballast are visible, with the right track vacant. Flanking the tracks are two short concrete platforms each with a small shelter and a bench. Overhead catenary wires are visible with a gantry supporting them toward the far end of the platforms. The sky is bright and clear and there are forested hills in the background.

Yesterday was the last day for the V sets on the Central Coast and Newcastle Line

Having operated for 55 years (since 1970!), their replacements, the D sets, feature improved accessibility, power points and tray tables.
