I'll be reviewing applications for a new student or two for UNC-CH's clinical psychology PhD program! Social anxiety, pain, intensive longitudinal data, all that fun stuff.

What prospective applicants get if they email me (so no need): docs.google.com/document/d/1...

The amount of Amazon workers relying on SNAP and Medicaid has nearly tripled since 2020. — while Amazon’s annual profits soared by over 550%.

It’s the same story everywhere: corporate profits are at record highs, while workers’ share of the economy is at a record low.

We must unrig the system.

Do non-human primates have theory of mind?

My new paper takes a new computational approach to this classic question.

We implemented verbal theories of primates' mental representations as computational models. These models completed classic visual perspective-taking tasks.

1: It comes from the companies so grain of salt but I was happy to read that it's VERY infrequent for people to use LLM chatbots for emotional support (e.g., 0.34 - 3.73% for Claude).

I for one like the idea of Trump’s new hair. In between destroying everything he’s like “guys the look if off. Call Giorgio STAT. Tell him I need a # 10.”

After Trump gutted the IRS workforce — including the unit tasked with auditing billionaires — the agency's annual audit revenue plunged by 35%.

Trump's attacks on the IRS were never about "efficiency."

They were about making it easier for the wealthy and powerful to skirt what they owe.

And yet again, for the jazillionth time, I just got f'ed over because of the rotating turnstile of my university's administration. This time, it's a huge financial hit that was completely avoidable.

I wrote this a decade ago, but man it's perennial:

No starker example of the media having different rules for each political party. If the press treated Elon Musk like Hasan Piker, every Republican in America would be forced to answer questions about why their party's biggest donor espouses anti-semitic race science.
Gonna print this out and put it under wipers on Teslas in Los Angeles

1: New @sadcatlab.bsky.social paper. TL; DR individuals with a good (predicted) prognosis benefit about as much from waiting as from iCBT (SMD=-0.14, 95% CI: -0.34, 0.06). Those w/a poorer prognosis see large intervention effect (SMD=-0.47, 95% CI: -0.67, -0.28).

🚨Update: Our analysis of global APC expenditure has now been expanded to cover more publishers (7 -> 14) and more years (2019-2025).

We estimate $15B in APCs paid over seven years, $3.7B in 2025 alone. Elsevier crosses the $1B threshold by itself in 2025.

If Penn and Teller started explaining magic tricks these days, a bunch of TikTok/Threads idiots would go: “guys something’s off here, they couldn’t actually fit in the secret compartment. It’s real magic, anyone with pattern recognition can tell.”
