Three Chicago protesters who were assaulted by federal troops outside the Broadview ICE facility last fall have filed claims under the Federal Torts Claims Act (FTCA). These filings are a necessary first step towards filing federal lawsuits against the U.S. government. Read the press release here:

ICE locked up a transgender woman with men at GEO Group run camp. She reported that she was sexually assaulted. She was hospitalized. She spoke to a local sheriff. Then DHS deported her. (content note for stories and photos of anti-trans violence)
She reported a sexual assault at North Lake. ICE deported her before the investigation was over.
A former detainee says she was repeatedly sexually assaulted at the North Lake Processing Center and that her attempts to alert administrators initially went unheeded.

Tomorrow, a judge will rule on whether to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate crimes committed by federal agents during Operation Midway Blitz.

Here, U.S. Representative Delia Ramirez—one of the petitioners—eloquently explains why it is needed.

Today, we submitted what we expect to be our final argument to the court on why the people of Cook County need and deserve an independent special prosecutor to investigate and prosecute crimes committed by federal agents during Operation Midway Blitz. A ruling is expected Thursday.

Jeffrey Clark, framed for a 1992 murder by the Meade County (KY) Sheriff's Dept. and Coroner's Office, spent 22.5 years in prison before being exonerated in 2018. Yesterday, a jury awarded him $24.35 million in damages. "I finally feel like I am able to wake up from a 34-year nightmare," he says.

BREAKING NEWS: A Louisville, KY jury has awarded $24.35 million to Jeffrey Clark, who alleged in his lawsuit that he was framed for a 1992 murder by the Meade County Sheriff, one of his deputies, and the coroner.

Mr. Clark spent 22.5 years in prison before being exonerated.
