8/28/26: #Tigers beat us 8-4 today w/a 16 H assault (5 by Fothergill who's now hitting .400) on Hoyt & Shawkey. We came back from an 0-3 deficit in the 4th on Meusel’s 2-run HR & Combs’ RBI-3B, but #Detriot pushed ahead w/enough runs so that Ruth’s HR (his 40th) in the 8th didn’t matter. #Yankees

8/27/26: Dutch Ruether, star of the ’18 World Champion #Reds, was released by the #Senators today & became a part of our #Yankees (via waivers). Griffith said they were cutting out their dead wood, but Dutch (age 32) should be happy coming to a sure pennant winner. Lifetime 122-86, 141 CG, & 15 ShO.

Griffith said they were cutting out their dead wood, but Dutch (age 32) should be happy coming to a sure pennant winner. Lifetime 122-86, 141 CG, & 15 ShO.
8/27/26: Lazzeri’s 3-run HR (his 16th!) in the 4th (w/me & Meusel on) was all Pennock needed today as we beat the #Tigers 4-1. #Detroit scored 1 off Herb on 3 hits in the 1st, but thereafter made just 5 hits & no runs. Ruth had a swat in the 4th that was just a foot foul; then he K’ed. #Yankees

8/25/26: Today was the 5th straight time Uhle has beaten us (7th time all year); this time 6-0. We managed just 8 hits, most of them on lucky bounces. Jones pitched well til the 8th when #Cleveland scored 5 on a bunch of 1Bs, a BB & an E by Gazella. I'm just 2 for 18 off Uhle this year. #Yankees

8/25/26: Today was the 5th straight time Uhle has beaten us (7th time all year); this time 6-0. We managed just 8 hits, most of them on lucky bounces. Jones pitched well til the 8th when #Cleveland scored 5 on a bunch of 1Bs, a BB & an E by Gazella. I'm just 2 for 18 off Uhle this year. #Yankees
8/23/26: Beat #Cleveland 3-2. Levsen allowed just 5 H, but in the 5th when the score was tied 1-1, we bunched 3 of them: Severeid 1Bed, Gazella 2Bed him in & Combs 1Bed in Gazella. Shocker (now 17-7) made no mistakes the rest of the way, altho 1 R was let in on Lazzeri's fumble in the 8th. #Yankees

8/23/26: Beat #Cleveland 3-2. Levsen allowed just 5 H, but in the 5th when the score was tied 1-1, we bunched 3 of them: Severeid 1Bed, Gazella 2Bed him in & Combs 1Bed in Gazella. Shocker (now 17-7) made no mistakes the rest of the way, altho 1 R was let in on Lazzeri's fumble in the 8th. #Yankees

8/21/26: Lazzeri was the hero today. His 1B in the 8th scored me & Meusel, breaking the 1-1 tie & we beat #StLouis 3-1. Pennock was flawless, gave up just 5 hits & walked none. Dugan turned 3 potential hits into routine outs. This gives a full 10-game lead over #Philadelphia & #Cleveland. #Yankees
8/20/26: I 1Bed in Koenig in the 1st & 3Bed in Koenig & Paschal in the 4th & again in the 8th! That gave the 10K Boys’ Club boys in the stands plenty to cheer abt, as we beat #StLouis 10-4. The #Browns scored all their R off Jones by the 4th, but Shawkey shut them out the rest of the way. #Yankees

8/17/26: Lost to the #WhiteSox 5-3 in just 5 inn. Hoyt lasted just 1/3 of an inn, gave up 4 runs. We did some damage in the 4th capped off by Collins’ 3B, but the rains came hard before we could find ways to settle the score. But #Cleveland lost 2x today, so we gained 1/2 game in our lead. #Yankees

8/17/26: Lost to the #WhiteSox 5-3 in just 5 inn. Hoyt lasted just 1/3 of an inn, gave up 4 runs. We did some damage in the 4th capped off by Collins’ 3B, but the rains came hard before we could find ways to settle the score. But #Cleveland lost 2x today, so we gained 1/2 game in our lead. #Yankees
8/16/26: Bob Meusel missed 43 games w/a broken bone in his left foot; he broke on June 25 while trying to steal 2B. Paschal filled in adequately hitting .316 & made 78 TB, scored 27 R. Bob’s back in the lineup now, not fully recovered tho. 4 for 21 since he came back on August 11. #Yankees

8/16/26: Bob Meusel missed 43 games w/a broken bone in his left foot; he broke on June 25 while trying to steal 2B. Paschal filled in adequately hitting .316 & made 78 TB, scored 27 R. Bob’s back in the lineup now, not fully recovered tho. 4 for 21 since he came back on August 11. #Yankees
8/16/26: We just played 23 games (winning 13) in 20 days w/o a day off. A 2600 mile round trip that took us to #CHI, #CLE, #DET & #DC before coming home to play 2 consecutive doubleheaders. I hit .365 w/19 R, 19 RBI, 8 2B, 4 HR, 16 BB. Ruth hit .395, w/21 R, 20 RBI, 7 2B, 9 HR & 17 BB. #Yankees

8/9/26: Lazzeri’s 3-run smash (his 15th) in the 5th broke up a 3-3 tie & Ruth’s 2-runner (his 36th!) in the 7th put us well ahead. But down 5 in the 9th w/2 outs & after Koenig dropped an easy fly, the #Tigers staged a 4-run rally. Shawkey came in to get the final out & we won it 9-8. #Yankees
