Poetry lurker
By all means
regale me with snow:
whenever I strode through the summer
shoulder to shoulder with the mulberry tree,
its youngest leaf
shrieked.

scars on her arm from twenty cuts. Now they look
like white stems. I have only seen them

twice. But I have seen them hundreds of times in
my mind. Isn’t that how love works?

Proof copies of Each Leaf, Each Curve of Stem, my second novel, have arrived! I call it my second novel, but in my heart it's my first - thirteen years in the writing, baby. Yep, feeling quite emotional! 🌱💚✒️

On 9th April 1917, whilst smoking a pipe in his dugout doorway, the poet and writer Edward Thomas was killed.

His greatest legacy, his writings, still influence the way we perceive place and consider our place within the landscape.

“I was also wondering whether this image of the light filtering through, it’s almost a space in which your poems exist?” Great comment, brilliant collection.

Dark Night by John of the Cross in this weeks LRB
brilliantly translated by Martha Sprackland—

there i stayed
and there forgot
my cheek lay on my beloved fair
and all things ceased and i was lost
and all my worldly doubt and care
were sunk among the lilies there

Watching Edward Norton, on Colbert, talking about Walt Whitman.
I like Edward Norton. Lot of people would rather he yucked it up, kept it light & breezy, but it's refreshing to see someone care about poetry.
He knows it isn't popular with the masses but he talks about what he cares about regardless.

Graceful and intimate, poems of "sublime precision".
