someone is such a scoundrel that you aren't satisfied with the better known, "I in malam crucem!," consider "In culum Orci incidas!" This locution is found in Erasmus's Adagia. He describes it as, "Sermo perniciem et extremum exitium imprecantis," which means, 1/2

From "In Verrem," a series a speeches Cicero made in the corruption and extortion trial of Gaius Verres, former Roman governor of Sicily. Cicero's speeches so thoroughly damned Verres that he was urged to do the Roman version of pleading "no contest" to the charges and go into voluntary exile.

The opening line of Cicero's 1st Catilinarian speech, which was given in front of the Roman Senate. In this speech, Cicero accused Lucius Sergius Catilina of plotting to overthrow the Roman republic for his own personal gain.

The ICE agent who shot Marimar Martinez in Chicago tried to goad her out of her car.

He said “do something b*tch” and shot her 5 times.

The ICE agent who shot Nicole Renee Good did the same thing. Stood right in front of her vehicle and yelled “f*cking bitch”.

They hate women & it shows.

Mars the tyrant. An ancient expression from Erasmus's Adagia.
This engraving of mar is from the workshop of Jacques de Gheyn (II), 1595 - 1599 and downloaded from the Rijksmuseum.

A #Roman glass vessel in the shape of a fish - it has an adorable little face on what is technically the side/bottom of the vessel (it is shown in the museum lying horizontally). A bit impractical though, yes...

#MosaicMonday - From a Roman villa in Trinquetaille (Arles) comes this mosaic of the myth of the abduction of Europa: ca. Late 2nd-Early 3rd Century AD. I love the polychrome mantle which gives the scene an almost rainbow effect. #Myth #Archaeology 🏺
