Today, the community gathered at Police Memorial Park for a September 11 remembrance hosted by the City of Las Vegas and Las Vegas Ten-13 Club.

As we mark 25 years, we honor the 2,977 lives lost and those who continue to keep their memories alive.

This morning, LVMPD officers joined Las Vegas Fire & Rescue at Station 5 for the annual Tolling of the Bell Ceremony, honoring the victims of 9/11 and the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill joined public officials and the community to open the new facility, which will temporarily house Southeast Area Command during renovations. Officer Austin Zade Abdelnabi’s locker will be preserved in his honor.

Ofc. Austin Zade Abdelnabi was laid to rest Saturday in Greer, South Carolina. We are deeply grateful to the law enforcement agencies, organizations, businesses, and community partners who honored him.

EOW: Sgt. Douglas King

Today, we remember Sgt. Douglas King, who served LVMPD from 2004, until his passing from COVID-19 complications in 2021. One of the first officers to respond to the Route 91 shooting, he was later awarded the Medal of Honor.

He will never be forgotten.

Today, we honor Officer Clark Wooldridge who died in the line of duty at just 22. On Aug. 14, 1979, he was responding to a call when his patrol car crashed and caught fire. He succumbed to his injuries two days later.

Today, we remember Officer Philip Closi, a 21-year LVMPD veteran, D.A.R.E. officer, mentor, and devoted family man. He passed away from COVID-19 complications on Aug. 11, 2021, at age 48. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and children, Nicola and Jacob.
