8 weeks with Gunner, a survivor of greyhound racing 🖤 She's a sweetie. And I finally got my Canon back out of its case.

A sleek, black greyhound nestles her snout between two grey blankets, one with white spots. Her pensive eyes are a warm brown and her ears are floppy on top of her head.

This comment sums it up for me. What good is an economy that crushes its own citizens while lining the pockets of a privileged few? #nzpol

My #greyhound photo of the day, taken at the end of a long 2 hours waiting for her dad to get home. Only 6 weeks since she became a companion instead of a competitor.

To me this is wild! Auckland Zoo doing dodgy stuff to try to stop footage of stressed animals reaching the public. Am I just sensitive or is this kinda shocking?

We've renamed our rescue greyhound Gunner. Well, she chose the name. We were spitballing words and names, and on hearing "gunner" she leapt up from where she was napping and ran over excitedly. We have no idea what it means to her but it gets her happy and attentive... so that's that! 🖤

A beautiful black greyhound rests her head on her human's knee on the couch. She has a sweet, pensive look in her eye, and her ear is cute and floppy.

Photos of my backyard pigeons are hereby eclipsed by the arrival of our adopted greyhound girl, a survivor of the racing industry. She came with the name Trouble but has started responding more strongly to a different name... yet to see if it sticks.

I forgot I entered the NZ Amateur Photography Awards on a whim back in June then got an email this morning telling me my entry received a "commended" ribbon! I will pass the good news on to my model at feeding time tomorrow.

On the weekly Uber to therapy for PTSD treatment the driver asks if I'm going to work. I say yes because most drivers get awkward if I say "therapy". He pries, I say I work in music. He asks if my husband works in music. He asks for my Instagram handle. Next time I'll kill the chat with "therapy".

After months of work we can finally share footage of Ōrua, the fur seal euthanised by Auckland Zoo because of a leak in his pool. You'll see behaviour described as "a clear sign of significant and ongoing stress" by an independent animal welfare specialist.

A friend explores the garden.

A foreground of rosemary leaves and flowers nearly obscures a pigeon who stands on a rock, looking into the garden bed. It's a sunny day.

Yes, Darla, we see you 💘

A flock of pigeons have their heads down, foraging for seeds on the lawn. A pure white pigeon peeks out above everyone else, keeping an eye on the camera. In the background is an overgrown garden in front of a brick wall and wooden fence.

Lovers, after the rain.

A pigeon couple snuggling on the corner of a rooftop is reflected in the round mirror of a scooter. There are raindrops on the mirror. A brick wall is the backdrop.

Leaderlike.
My @smh cartoon.
Single frame. Albo at a desk in a dark room with “OFFICE OF AI” on door, hunched up looking at laptop, says, “How do I deal with AI?” Response in computer speech comes: “That’s a great question, Anthony! I can see you really want to do the smart thing in spite of all the risks, climate implications and likely human cost. I can help you look past those inconveniences and focus on producing optimal outcomes for my owners while making you sound responsible and leaderlike. How does that sound?”

Thinking about Archbishop Desmond Tutu's statement that he would rather go to hell than a homophobic heaven
"I would refuse to go to a homophobic heaven. No, I would say sorry, I mean I would much rather go to the other place," Archbishop Tutu said at the launch of the Free and Equal campaign in Cape Town. "I would not worship a God who is homophobic and that is how deeply I feel about this." Archbishop Tutu said the campaign against homophobia was similar to the campaign waged against racism in South Africa. "I am as passionate about this campaign as I ever was about apartheid. For me, it is at the same level," he added.

A black and white photo. A purely white pigeon stands staunchly on the dark lawn. In the background is a row of brick flats with 7 pigeons sitting along the edge of the roof making dark silhouettes against a light, washed-out sky.
