TBT: 57 years ago this week an ambitious King Crimson released their debut album on an unsuspecting world. A 21 year-old Greg Lake was the lead singer, bassist & lyricist. His impassioned tenor is so powerful in the lament that is “Epitaph.”

Mark’s Movie Picks: “Knives Out: Wake Up, Dead Man” (2025). My favorite film of last year, this is arguably the best “Knives Out” murder mystery yet. Besides the intriguing murder mystery, it also deals with the problems within the church of America today. I give it an A+.

Mark’s Prog Rock Promenade: “The Spider/Portrait (He Knew)” by Kansas (1977). This couplet of an intense 2 minute instrumental leads into a more standard mid-tempo rocker with lyrics about a mysterious hyper-intelligent character.
The opener features numerous time signatures of 6, 5, 8, 7 & 9.

Mark’s Movie Picks: “Birdman or The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance” (2014). An unsettling story of a washed-up action hero actor trying to find relevance again. Michael Keaton, in one of his best serious roles, plays a guy with delusions of grandeur as well as deep depression. I give it a B+.
