A picture of post-Brexit Britain. New post on my Brexit & Brexitism Blog on a fortnight of ugly political scenes, why a government-led counter-narrative on asylum is needed, and why these domestic political events are a national security issue: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2026/09/a-pi...

Excellent as ever. Reminded me of Orwell on England "A family with the wrong members in control – that, perhaps, is as near as one can come to describing England in a phrase."
Brexit Britain is still a tinderbox. New post starting the 11th year of my Brexit & Brexitism Blog with analysis of a long, hot summer of Brexit stasis & dishonesty & the reasons for it, Clacton, the Arday case & the culture war: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2026/08/brex...

Stop looking for Burnhamism - in six years, I’ve never found.

Watching the mayor up close in Manchester, I’ve seen his unusual gifts and glaring weaknesses. Would he make a good prime minister?

Yesterday two European institutions published this extremely good paper on future UK-EU ties. It deserves proper attention coming from there so to speak and being based on serious engagement with experts on both sides. Some key points follow...

So true. We need to get out of the doom loop.
Awful lot of people seem to think houses used to fall off trees, jobs were well paid and lovely, people were lovely to each other, and everyone could afford holidays every day.

Of course life isn't perfect now. But it never was. And in many ways it is much better.

Wonderful season for the Blues. Didn’t expect us to get promoted and win the league so easily. So unlike us. Anyway, next season will be a different proposition. 💙 #bcfc #kro

#Posh were much the better team and fully deserved their victory. Congratulations to them 🎉. We will learn from the that and in the long run it will help our development. Let’s finish the season with the highest EFL points total. #kro #bcfc

This is an excellent report/ analysis. FWIW I think Starmer is handling this incredibly difficult situation about as well as possible, even if it's not pretty, and distasteful for those who demand absolute moral purity in politics.
By me: how ultra-pragmatist Keir Starmer is still trying to get the US back on board over Ukraine with careful diplomacy, and how this ties in with his long disavowal of what he calls the ‘politics of protest’.
