Self-identifying “Christians” who target people for exclusion (whether they be trans, Muslim, or black or brown immigrants) are repeating the very worst of Christian history. It has everything to do with hatred, fear, power, and control and absolutely nothing to do with the way of Jesus.

One of the most dangerous ways to read religious scriptures is to view them as simply coming directly from the Divine rather than understanding them as the religious expressions of persons-in-community influenced by the social, economic, and political forces of their historical and cultural context.
