As it was foretold, members of the Irish Federation of University Teachers (IFUT) held a one-hour stoppage on Maynooth University campus today to mark World Teachers’ Day. The turnout was very good, helped by the reasonably nice weather. As well as speeches from members of IFUT, there were also contributions from the other Unions, Unite and Siptu as well as the Postgraduate Workers' Organisation; the latter is not an officially-recognised trade union, but supports the dispute.

There have also been calls for the government to introduce a permanent residency visa if it insists on changing current rules.

And solidarity with colleagues in Glasgow Caledonian
Four universities on strike today. One map to find them all.

Nottingham, Dundee, Glasgow Caledonian and Edinburgh are out. And today we launch the UCU strike map: every dispute across the union, in one place.

Find a dispute near you. Visit a picket. Share the map.

Our strike action began today.

The management at our university has seemingly shackled itself to course closures and compulsory redundancies, despite neither being financially necessary.

So we fight for our members, our students, and our community until they change their minds.

Day 4 of the UCU workers' strike against massive job cuts.

“Senior management can stop this strike by prioritizing cuts to non-staff budgets and stopping redundancies that are decimating our university, while leaving those who remain with an unmanageable workload & exhaustion."

Solidarity with colleagues in Dundee.
Day 8 of 25. We moved our picket line to this afternoon and we were blessed with amazing sunshine.

Our members resolve is strong as we fight against the underhanded methods employed by the UEG including not following their own processes.

Thanks to the many students who support us and visited us.

Day 1 of our strike at the University of Edinburgh while senior management shrugs and says 'crisis, what crisis?' at the complaints about the inevitable falling educational standards and job losses.
Our members at Edinburgh University commence a 5 week strike today over crippling job cuts.

Please show them solidarity as they head onto picket lines this morning.

This is quite cool. My university is the first organisation in the world to force Microsoft to allow us to turn off copilot summaries in Word 365, after a backlash against it from staff (including, very vocally, me). That cannot have been easy for our heroic IT people so hats very much off to them!

For people of my age (old) and my background (CNR) who grew up in NI during the 90s, Drumcree was the nadir of community relation & differences in our perceptions of ‘rights’. We just could not conceive how a group of snarling, angry men thought their ‘right to march’ surpassed our ‘right to exist’.

I cannot ever forget how the marching bands refused to be silent, as requested, going past the house where the mother of those three murdered boys took refuge in the weeks after her unthinkable loss.

A small detail that exposes everything this march is for.

Exactly this. They need our support in the absence of support from the institution.
Goodness, what a weight on the players. What a sense of clashing responsibilities it must be. How unfair it falls to the group of young men after their institutional supports chose to send them there.

It's pure shite that it has come down the players though. The FAI should have backed them, and got them out of the game.
