Genuinely one of the strangest film scoring choices I've ever encountered, still not sure if I love it or hate it

A ★★★★ review of Witness (1985)
Is it insensitive to score a movie about the Amish with this many synths?

Almost all of them. It's practically inherent to the form, and why I prefer movies.
What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?

It's either "But fuck your courage to the sticking place" or "But screw your courage to the fucking place"
Ok don’t let’s get carried away but I found something genuinely good on Threads.

Hear me out: sometimes it’s nice to learn about something just because … it’s fun and interesting! College is not supposed to be about optimizing yourself for A Career with no detours. It’s supposed to be an opportunity to learn and grow *as a human being* — much of which happens outside your major.

Last Christmas! I remain baffled by the savaging critics gave this movie. It has a whip-smart Emma Thompson script, an utterly gorgeous performance from Emilia Clarke, and MICHELLE YEOH AS SANTA

it really needs to be more openly discussed that all the people advocating for “we should be fine with losing basic skills if we get more systems thinking” are men, meaning socialized to expect to be able to offload basic tasks of daily living onto a wife as part of their compensation for existing
Ezra Klein asked Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang about AI making kids worse at math and reading. Huang’s reply: “Does it matter?”

Then he said he doesn’t know his own address or phone number. “We’re going to lose some fine intellectual dexterity.” www.nytimes.com/2026/09/23/o...

It's Monday morning, and I am reluctantly entering into the discussion about what The Democrats should do about The Trans, most of which translates to "believe in something, for once in your life, for fuck's sake." No paywall on this guy: jude-doyle.ghost.io/transformer-...

Writers/Musicians/Artists told you from Day 1 that this was theft. Straight up. Always has been.
“A senior executive at Microsoft said A.I. systems built on the work of others will be seen as ‘an astonishing theft of unprecedented proportions’ and possibly the greatest robbery of labor in human history, according to court documents unredacted Thursday in an ongoing Manhattan lawsuit.”
Docs in A.I. copyright suit reveal startling admission by Microsoft exec over ‘astonishing theft’
The admission appeared in a newly unredacted filing in the landmark copyright infringement legal battle playing out between newspapers like the Orlando Sentinel and tech companies Microsoft and OpenAI...

More than any higher ed development in recent memory, institutional subsidies for AI at R1 universities prove that austerity is a choice. It is not “too expensive” to invest in a humanities research infrastructure; rather, it is a choice that R1 universities make not to & subsidize AI instead.
The amount of money I saw one department paying for several AI services in a school year could cover the University’s pay one price textbook costs for nearly their entire enrolled student body in said department
Colleges could subsidize books for students rather than paying for premium versions of ChatGPT

We all know that's some BS.

I was hired to transcribe (in longhand) a bunch of electric guitar parts from these old Muzak-esque recordings, then mail them to a filmmaker so he could use them for B-roll. Found out later it was for a Led Zeppelin documentary.
Happy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."
