The policy not to prosecute sitting Presidents was and is a policy that Garland and Smith CHOSE to honor.

It isn’t in the Constitution. It isn’t a law.
Am I crazy or could Democrats win a ton of low-info voters by loudly promising to ban and prosecute spam phone calls?

Trump and Stephen Miller’s ICE is out of control.

Alex Pretti, a brave American and nurse, was protecting his community when ICE agents shot and killed him. Stephen Miller then tried to smear his name and lie about his death. What else is he lying about?

While ICE officers are mostly immune from civil liability for civil rights violations, municipalities are not.

My guess is that a lot of these municipalities would think twice about coming up with b.s. pretexts for traffic stops if faced with a flood of wrongful arrest lawsuits.

Also GOP: "It is not wrong for Trump to hire his personal criminal defense attorney as AG and for his chief of staff to direct the DOJ to make partisan prosecutions."

I wish people would stop calling the GOP the "law and order party." Or the "family values party."

It is done to point out hypocrisy. But hypocrisy is generally a weak attack and not worth counter-productively reinforcing the GOP brand.

Call the GOP the corruption party and forget hypocrisy.
As hard as it is to believe, that is the actual position of the so-called law and order party.

I do not think that Jack Smith is a hero. He kind of sucked at his job.

But if he wanted to impress me, he would sue Schmitt and possibly others for defamation*. Even if he lost, he'd be punishing the GOP and would likely elicit embarrassing facts in discovery.

*For non-hearing statements.
BREAKING: MS NOW EXCLUSIVE.

Republican Eric Schmitt was warned about the Jack Smith texts. He used them anyway.

GOP Judiciary staff told Schmitt the texts — obtained from the Trump DOJ — were "unvetted." Schmitt still used them.
Eric Schmitt was warned about the Jack Smith texts. He used them anyway.
As Republicans on Capitol Hill try to figure out how Eric Schmitt’s bombshell fell apart so embarrassingly, it turns out he was warned that the texts were unvetted.

Initial thoughts on the Cornell case:

1. Both the initial decision not to charge and the recent appointment of a special prosecutor may have been correct given the information that was known at each period in time.

2. Individually, the "Cornell 7" may have very different criminal liabilities.

32 years ago, the GOP retook the House for the first time in decades merely by highlighting the Pentagon overpaying for hammers and toilet seats.

While there appears to be a Blue Wave in the works this year, it shouldn't be close.

And yet Democrats can't even be as bold as Thomas Massie and actually call for Hegseth's impeachment.

It is insantity.
I’ve known many other defense secretaries, starting with Cap Weinberger, who served as defense secretary under Reagan.

I can say without fear of contradiction that Pete Hegseth is the stupidest and least qualified of them all.
Hegseth Must Go
If Trump won’t fire him, Congress must impeach him

More Democrats need to read The Culture Code by Clotaire Rapaile. Republicans have studied it for years.

Simply put, people's views on any given issue can radically change depending on what words you use to talk about the issue.
Something remarkable is happening: James Talarico is running an expansively pro-immigrant campaign in Texas, a state Trump won by 14 points, speaking in Biblical terms about our duty to "the stranger."

And it's resonating. That's seismic. 1/

In Texas, Something Seismic Is Happening—and It’s All Trump’s Fault
Thanks to the economy and ICE, Trump has lost Texas Latinos. And James Talarico is developing a humane pro-immigrant message that’s resonating—even in this ultra-Trumpy state.

A big obstacle to Harris in 2028 is the narrative that her biggest defenders went with after she lost. Instead of chucking Biden under the bus, they insisted that the voters were simply to racist and misogynistic to elect her.

The problem is that those will be basically the same voters in 2028.

Airmen and Guardians have until Oct. 16 to pick from 31 Pentagon approved beliefs. Atheist is not one of them. Anyone who does not pick "will have their records automatically realigned," the Air Force says. The government will choose their religious affiliation for them.

What a strange thing to say. Trump's belief that he is immune from any kind of legal limit is actually a rational one, because that's exactly how everyone in Washington behaves, including SCOTUS and Democratic members of Congress. If they want him to believe something else, they need to show him.

Duckworth said that her advice to her colleagues would be "don't be impeaching anybody" and to focus on trying to cut a deal with Trump on USAID funding and tariffs.

Aside from being morally repugnant and electorally demoralizing, dealing with Trump is dumb because he will break any deal Dems make.
My reaction to this was “huh, doesn’t sound like Duckworth.” So I watched it. She’s talking about tariffs & funding USAID & farm bankruptcies & it’s obvious that the “save face” bit was acknowledging these things will change only if Trump agrees & you get him to do that by letting him think he won/1
I had not seen this clip where Tammy Duckworth advises Democrats to "not impeach anybody," "get back to work" and "allow" Donald Trump to "save face" and I would just like to remind the senator from IL that the federal government took 4,000 Chicagoans and murdered a 38-year-old father last fall.

Democrats like Duckworth who want to preemptively take impeachment off the table, have an obligation to explain a theory for reining in illegal behavior by a President that goes beyond “posting criticism on social media”.
Trump says the only guardrail that AI needs is him as President.

That’s a bold pitch from the guy whose wallets get fatter even as gas, grocery and electricity costs soar from his illegal war.

If his leadership isn’t working for the American people, why would it work for AI?

I don't care if Boebert is personally nice to Raskin. Raskin represents the Democratic Party. And Boebert has been incredibly nasty and insulting to Raskin's constituents and the Democratic Party as a whole.
Sweet moment during late-night votes this week: Lauren Boebert introduced her grandson to her colleague Jamie Raskin, who was kind and respectful to the gentleman from Maryland. Raskin and Boebert have become good friends in recent years.

I like how Democrats just discovered that you can make campaign promises to get votes.

Don’t get me wrong. Trump’s pledge is a borderline bribe. But it is actually okay to tell voters “If you want X then vote for me.”
democrats should just come out and say youll get a $10k check if they win the midterms i mean who gives a fuck

Overwhelmingly, the people who are massively uninspired by a Jeffries Speakership are not "Socialists." They are grassroots Democrats who, at most, would describe themselves as progressive.
I kept on saying that progressives who wanted to take out Jeffries misunderstand how the House Democratic caucus works. So I finally decided to write it here. There are a host of reasons blocking Jeffries would backfire. 1/
