As a former professional football player, I can confidently say that this essay is incorrect from every conceivable angle, and contributes heavily to the culture of toxic masculinity that still infests high schools and colleges across the country.
I think it’s safe to say that some version of this essay by Ben Sasse on youth football has been written for over 100 years.

“Football is a character-forming institution that channels strength… In a culture of passivity, football privileges action. In times of peace, football prepares us for war.”

The sport forms character by harnessing wild masculinity and directing it toward the good and the pure.

When Democrats have the House, the Senate, and the Presidency, we should split the 9th Circuit into 3 parts and expand the Supreme Court to 15.

Former Supreme Court law clerk here. I said what I said.
It's worth noting that this isn't a random number but a goal that would simply restore the court to an earlier norm in which there's one justice for each of the judicial circuits. We used to have nine, we now have thirteen.

The people defending the current setup have the tougher case to make here.
Rep. James Clyburn says he supports expanding the Supreme Court: "13 is a pretty good number. A baker's dozen would be a good number to have on the Court."

She's entirely right. Middle school is too late. When they're younger, many are small and spry enough to go down chimneys and through HVAC vents and clean them right and well. I've read my Dickens.
BASH: One of the things that's happening is there's a push to start students down a trade school track as early as elementary school. Is that too early?

LINDA McMAHON: I don't think so

BASH: But elementary school?

Tales of everyday corruption.

Pete Hegseth cancelled the $400,000 contract for making uniforms for the Blue Angels on the grounds that the contract with "The Sewing Box" was DEI since the firm is Black-owned.

Instead, he awarded it to a Trump donor for $1,690,000, a 325% price increase!

You might get sick of hearing this but if he keeps doing it I'm gonna keep saying it: this is an unconstitutional impoundment, violating both Congress' Article I spending authority and the 1974 Impoundment Control act, and immediately impeachable.

This is akin to Trump raiding the National Parks Service in order to pay for his Reflecting Pool disaster. (Which he has done). Take something that works remarkably well, and divert resources to cronies to deliver something the public did not ask for.

Whoa, over a quarter million people (so far!) have left a comment on the egrgious openly fascist takeover attempt of the OMB.

You can too! @standupforscience.net has instructions and everything you need. It's not hard, and it's critically important to science.

NSF is spending more money servicing old grants than making new ones. As of the end of May, more funds flowed to old projects than new, for the first time in recent history. Much of this was for funds planned years ago for new supercomputing structure. grant-witness.us/posts/2026-0... #NSF 🧪

The fact that FOUR sitting Supreme Court justices were willing to greenlight Trump's racist attack on the Fourteenth Amendment's guarantee of birthright citizenship is a national embarrassment. Tear down the institution, it is beyond saving.
