I've cleaned up the grid snapping and axis constraining heuristics for GodSVG's next alpha.

The Grand Bug Extermination

GodSVG alpha 17 is releasing tomorrow. The highlight of this prerelease is that ~75 bugs are getting their butts kicked! 🦇

I'll take a break, and after that, I'll get back to the fundamentals to sort out the remaining reasons why GodSVG is still in alpha. No bugs, no distractions!

Common SVG mistake: Hugs are misleading!

Even if two areas are hugging visually, they render separately and antialiasing messes them up. A pixel 50% covered by white, 50% by red, will just become 75% translucent by the end, leaving 25% for the background to influence! 🙀

GodSVG's path editor will finally be properly keyboard-navigable in alpha 17.

I've been spending the last few weeks hunting down lots of GodSVG bugs 🦇 That's why I haven't been posting much. A new alpha is planned for next week, alpha 17, which I'm dubbing the Grand Bug Extermination as it's heavily focused on fixes.

I also caught this big bug that crash-landed in my room!

Hah, so you can set the theme color from GodSVG's savedata to a translucent one and it works.

You'll soon be able to preview lossy export options in GodSVG. A creation gone wrong, or maybe horribly right?

I'm aiming for a new GodSVG alpha next week, to implement this small feature and destroy a few bugs.

GodSVG alpha 16 is out!

This prerelease solidifies the concept of subpaths, adds 3 new operations that make complex vector paths easier to work on, and buffs some of the old actions 💪

Operations that should work on multi-selections now do, while new subpath editing tools make complex vector paths easier to manipulate.

Well, I think that's all edge cases covered! You'll be able to reverse the orientation of subpaths in GodSVG alpha 16 (i.e. clockwise -> counterclockwise), which is used to decide which subpaths are treated as cutouts.

Whelp, on my commute to work I was reading SVG spec and testing things, and I found out about a quirk that I didn't know about and have to take it into account before my upcoming GodSVG alpha in... two days?!

I'll probably still manage, but damn I'm not as sure anymore.

Implemented in GodSVG the ability to reverse polygons and polylines, as well as change the origin point of polygons. This helps with organization and with a few attributes that are sensitive to their starting point (like stroke dasharrays, as shown)

My free and open source SVG editor, GodSVG, can now also convert multiple paths segments at once.

I also made a simple version of multi-insert for polygons and polylines.

GodSVG alpha 16 is planned for July 12th.

It's helpful to be able to tell where subpaths start in SVGs at a glance, so I gave MoveTo commands in GodSVG a square shape for alpha 16. Subpaths now also get subtle indicators in the inspector.

(Handle size is bumped up to 1.5x to show it more clearly)

The artwork in my last blog post was commissioned from the skilled artist bsky.app/profile/coil... to celebrate GodSVG's third birthday and passing 2048 stars on Github a while back 💫

There are two subtle references to fellow creative open-source tools, can you spot them?

I made a blog post detailing what's still needed for GodSVG to become beta-ready, if you're interested: godsvg.com/article/road...

There's also now a small press kit on the website: godsvg.com/about/press/
Roadmap to beta-ready GodSVG
Let's go over why GodSVG is still in alpha after more than 3 years of development. What are the remaining obstacles?

GodSVG was open-sourced exactly 3 years ago!

Excellent progress over the last year, and work is continuing around the clock, with alpha 16 planned to release soon.

I will post a roadmap, probably later this week, to explain what it will take to get to a stable release.

Press Kit? Sure!

(I'll release a press kit for GodSVG next week)

First time in the history of digital art where a simple hue shift also works as 3D rotation?

In GodSVG alpha 16 you'll be able to convert multiple elements of the same type all at once.

Starting work on GodSVG alpha 16. I've already eaten a few bugs and now I've made it possible to keep the path command insertion popup open by holding Ctrl.

(showcase in the first 20sec, the rest is just making a shape with math)

I worked a little bit on godsvg.com website over the last two weeks to make it focus-navigable. Fun fact, the site has almost equal amounts of everything used to make it.
