Will making it harder/impossible for care workers/middle skill migrants on work visas to settle improve integration cohesion? No.

But will it save money/be good for the economy? Absolutely not, quite the opposite.

But at least it's popular?

At @patricksturg.bsky.social request I am reposting this

I invite him to say in what respect I have "put words into his mouth", by pointing out that the letter he signed stated, explicitly, that academics should engage with Cofnas' racist garbage "through free inquiry and open, civil discussion."
you have no interest in what I actually think about AF and how it relates to the Cofnas case. You deliberately contort and put words in my mouth I haven't said then gleefully retweet your results to your army of moron followers. You truly are the one eyed king in the land of the blind. If early release can be altered so as to exempt homicide offences, it should be. Prisoners who have caused the gravest harm should be among the last to benefit from the overcrowding crisis.

But carving out exceptions for individual prisoners in response to media campaigns is weak and unprincipled.

It is extraordinary how it has become a sort of “settled wisdom” these days that Net Zero is an absurd aim, a sign of mad political correctness, and “has got to go”, when our planet is literally burning to death.
You see everything is connected.

The marine heatwaves off the coasts of Europe make heatwaves on land more intense, which in turn dries out vegetation, which then creates perfect fire weather conditions.

Brought to you by the world's refusal to drastically reduce the burning of fossil fuels.

I think this is broadly right.

We don't have an epidemic of violent crime (on the part of asylum seekers, migrants or anyone else) nor are we torn apart/wracked by racism/antisemitism/Islamophobia, serious issues as they are, and the media, especially the BBC, shouldn't tell us we are.
My against the grain of Bluesky opinion is that we should be campaigning for the - say - Belfast knife attack to have the same amount of coverage as the Edinburgh knife attacks, and not vice versa.
