Dominaria is a weird story for several different reasons. First off, it's written by a guest writer, Martha Wells, who at the time had written several different fantasy novels since the late 90s. Nowadays she's best known for writing the murderbot novellas...

Ixalan is a really incredible story and might be the best one they've done of the modern era. They manage to weave what would normally be “side stories” into the main story relatively seamlessly, with background on all the factions being given and...

You're telling me the game that ran in 12p on the 360 didnt deserve a 98 on metacritic?

it's the same thing with many games that came out blurry, choppy messes and still got huge praise. Cyberpunk2077 is a great example of a game that should forever be shamed for scamming gamers

Amonkhet is introduced in the kaladesh story as the plane created by nicol bolas. This was something that early mtg story did occasionally, as planewalkers were pseudo-gods and could make entire artificial planes for their own designs.

Basically all the kaladesh-specific characters are quite good. Even the few that are one-note like Kari Zev are decently characterized and provide a lot of worldbuilding. One of the things I wish they did was do some more side-ish stories to flesh out the entire world outside the city of ghirapur...

[Splatoon Raiders]

There are currently no plans for DLC or balance updates, according to the game's producer, Seita Inoue.

However, an update might be released if any "critical" bugs are found.

Kaladesh as a setting is generally pretty good. The visual design and aesthetic is stellar, and although the larger worldbuilding sometimes misses the mark in general it's consistant. Gameplay-wise, well, kaladesh was fun to play on it's own…but it really warped standard at the time with artifacts.

Anyway a lot of these stories are really incredible and they range from freaky to frightening. The main plotline, which follows jace, is kinda weird and honestly a bit middling at times, but it takes some serious risks with how it presents jace and I gotta respect it for that.

One of the big things that makes the innistrad story relatively interesting is the mystery of the first set’s story, which isn’t a mystery anymore due to the existence of eldritch moon. It’s relevant to explain how mtg generally sets up plot threads, there’s essentially two ways they do it.

Shadows over innistrad is the first return to innistrad, a very well-designed plane story-wise (gameplay-wise it’s pretty good as well). This story is unbelievably good. Just, really incredible. Innistrad is one of the key planes that make up the mtg late 2000s - early 2010s aesthetic.

Oath of the Gatewatch gets a lot of valid criticism for being “planewalkers as superheros”. I feel though that this criticism has become less impactful as time goes on (and as superhero movies get worse and worse). In retrospect 2016 was a great time to jump into the style...

Next up we have the battle for zendikar story (which includes the oath of the Gatewatch stories as well). This is the first return to zendikar, leading off from where the original block ended with rise of the eldrazi.

Overall the main purpose of these stories is to basically ensure that the audience has positive connections to these characters, especially with nissa jace and chandra, since they had more of a mixed “might be evil” interpretation in previous sets I believe...

For the Origins story they just wrote five backstory articles starring each of the planeswalkers pre-spark igniting. This is obviously less than the usual amount of stories for a set, but that's expected with the core sets...
