Topics on which I'm able (and willing) to have expert-level conversations:
- programming, software engineering, OCaml
- art
- general biology, mycology, mushroom hunting
- psychedelics
- rowing, running, trail running
- epistemology, artificial minds, hypothetical societies
I'm completely out of touch with how other people think... but maybe it could be easily fixed by reading other people's conversations with AI chatbots. Have you done this and was it illuminating?

Tentative design guideline: when things get complicated, avoid extra abstraction layers that don't introduce a beneficial separation of concerns.

Sometimes a string is just a string.

I quit the consumption of all passive feeds of information a few days ago. My motivation and productivity are back to healthy levels.

I used to actively ignore ads in contexts where there's no ad blocker and it was working fine. Now I do the same for all Bluesky, LinkedIn posts, YouTube home, etc.

AI isn't turning the programmer's brain into mush. It's just that we're now acting more like managers. Oh wait.

The OCaml Users Survey 2026 is now open! 📊

Share your experience with OCaml - from tools you use to new questions on AI/LLM tooling and debugging. Takes 10-15 minutes, open until May 25th.

Le 1er mai en France, tout le monde a le droit de travailler. Ce qui est interdit c'est d'employer des gens. Ce n'est pas du tout pareil. Travaillez pour vous-mêmes, camarades.

I genuinely believe that to be trusted, an AI system must be wired to not want to die.
I wonder at what point in history my smartphone OS will become self-aware and will start taking care of itself so that it doesn't die and I'm not tempted to kill it either.

YAMLx 0.2.0 is out. It fixes a few minor issues (locations including trailing whitespace, document separator being printed weird, comment extraction and attachment)

YAMLx is a complete, pure-OCaml YAML library with a user interface designed by me.

Does your ChatGPT also insert foreign words on occasion?

Note that I don't speak or read any Arabic. I use English and French regularly.

If you're pondering whether you should have kids, the answer is probably yes. We're wired to raise kids. Some people like kids more than others but overall, I think it's easier than the average guy would expect. Also, they're your kids; they're much more interesting than other people's kids.

I've created a complete, pure-OCaml YAML library called YAMLx (Yumyulack was too long). It will be suitable for reading config files in your applications as well as for analyzing YAML files used by other projects.

Aiming for a release by the end of this week.
