Post a song from the year you turned 12.

To make this consistent with the focus of my account, here's Meredith Monk's ATLAS, which premiered in 1992:

Sofia Gubaidulina passed away yesterday at the age of 93. She was undeniably the most famous Soviet woman composer, and after the collapse of the USSR she moved to Germany, where she spent the remainder of her life. One of my favorite pieces of hers, in an album with one of my favorite M. C. Escher

To celebrate World Book Day, I wanted to post a musical piece with a literary association, and it just happens that I'm reading Paradise Lost by John Milton at the moment (in the Harvard Classics, Vol. 4, a complete collection of Milton's English-language poetry). As I've often observed, the La Contemporaine stream from France Musique is consistently the most interesting source of modern music I know.

Today when they started Modern Times on KUSC with Max Richter, I switched it over and listened to Unsuk Chin's Cello 1/x

And this was the first Bach album I loved:

Since it's the first week of winter, and this is the time to see Orion the Hunter in the night sky (at least in my hemisphere), how about Claude Vivier's Orion? #ClassicalMusic #ContemporaryClassicalMusic #ModernClassicalMusic #ClaudeVivier #OrchestralMusic
