Fellow writers - favourite lines.

Here's one of mine:

“I didn’t give her a corpse,” she said softly, and walked away without another glance at Moira, so only Elisabeth caught the stunned look on her face, like she had been slapped.

Authors, favorite lines, go

Khanor smirked, the scars and cuts in her face shifting like rock in the Earth. “Our little lost lamb.”

Authors, give me one of your favorite lines you've written. I'll kick this off.

The scream building came not from the lack of light, but from the man wielding a weapon against it.

Submitted work for the first time in a few years, and got two rejections. I know it's a long game, but it's frustrating when I feel like I'm doing the best work of my life so far and it's still not fitting anywhere.

Ah, well, back to novel editing.

I have finished the draft of the Cold Heart. Now...I have to figure out how to edit this 141,000 word beast of a novel.

Ideally, I'd like to cut about 20k words in the process.

Anyone have tips or tricks to stay organized?

I loved this book when I read it earlier this year. Magical and dark.

I'm so bad at social media these days.

Current status:
I'm still slowly working on the novel - in the home stretch, probably on the last chapter.

And I'm reading (also very slowly) - currently I'm digging Blind the Eyes by local author K.A. Wiggins.

With life being extra-hectic right now, I almost missed World Goth Day! Just under the wire: a spooky photo to celebrate.

Working on some promo images for Cold Heart. Helps that I have a ton of photos of the sea. One of these days, I might pick the camera up again, but for now, it's still trying to get the last few chapters of the novel done.

Tomorrow, I start writing Chapter 50 of my novel. Unreal to me that I'm actually doing it this time. I'm going to finish an actual novel, not just a barebones 50k word draft.

I had a minor eyelid surgery today and didn't get an eye patch. The part of me that's actively writing a pirate novel is disappointed. The rest of me is relieved that it was such a minor procedure.

Hi.
I'm still deep in the novel-writing process, and trying not to lose momentum with everything that's going on in the world.

If you need a little break from the real horrors, I have some fictional horrors for you:

Happy New Year!
2025 had some really amazing highs, and some very dark lows. I'm glad it's a year we're putting to rest.

For 2026, I hope it's a gentle year. And that joy finds us all as often as possible. I'm hoping for beautiful sunsets, and unexpected glimpses of the moon.

I'm not around much, because I'm focusing on writing.

But I wanted to pop in to wish everyone a very merry holiday season (the horrors persist, but so do we).

May there be a light at the end of the hall for all of you.
