I must admit, the sheer volume of slop is sapping my motivation a bit. I’m not against someone using AI if they put a level of care and attention into making a good game. But it’s starting to feel like a niche version of the App Store gold rush where good games get drowned out by the deluge.

Looks like it’s shaping up to be a great issue! 😁
FREEZE64 issue 89 is all written, and so it’s time to start thinking about the cover and template for issue 90.

I do enjoy pushing what is possible with C64 sprites without any coding tricks. They are surprisingly versatile.

Thank you! Aside from the multi-directional scroll, there isn’t anything fancy. No multiplexers or anything. The scroller completely redraws the play area over 8 frames which means allowing the player to smash through blocks is easily handled by changing the tile map.

Thanks!

Hehe, inspiration is the greatest form of flattery right? 😁

Thank you. ☺️ I can see a bit of Rick Dangerous in it now that you mention it. I wasn’t inspired by it consciously but it was probably in my subconscious somewhere!

Thank you ☺️

I think that risk tension can exist with saving if the opportunity to save is spaced. E.g. saving only possible every 5 levels. But early days yet so anything could happen yet.

Update: not really a rogue-like because the plan is to save character progression, but it will be all procedurally generated dungeons/caves. Collect the crystal ore for crafting weapons, spells etc between levels. Find the enemy with the key to unlock the exit. #c64 #commodore64 #8bit #pixelart

Thanks for playing Bry!
I finally did it! A fab game and one I really enjoyed playing. If you liked the first game then you’ll love this too… #Commodore64 #C64 #Infeztation2 #MonteBoyd

Banking is an interesting idea! I had thought about having limited oxygen under ground and need to return before running out, kinda similar to banking.

That was kind of an inspiration yes! Spelunky but more exploratory.

Thanks! The tempo is because of the max speed of the scrolling code. So it can be a bit exploratory.
