And instead of taxing gain, should just tax the value at about 1/20th the rate. So, 1% tax on $2M is entirely manageable $20K. And if they fold next year, that’s all anybody is out. Fold that annual obligation into the financing. Collect the 1% from stock issuer, not current owner.

My faith in America restored.
I’m at Terminal 1 at Reagan National in DC, and a couple of Honor Flights just arrived. No loudspeaker announcement, but the info spread by word of mouth, and there were spontaneous and sustained standing ovations for the veterans as they deplaned.

It's striking (though not surprising given the normal course of authoritarian movements), that the whole Trump/MAGA/GOP message is now simply hatred of the other--of transgender people, of immigrants, and of "communists" as a catchall for everyone else. There's no pretense of a policy argument left.
