With the current application NASA devolved from a leader in science to be a flashy propaganda instrument. All of the new or revised missions, like Artemis, Moonbase, Skyfall, Moonfall, have almost no real scientific value (apart from maybe the engineering aspect) and are only there to be "cool".
It's funny, we found 3 helicopters for the Skyfall mission ( something Planetary didn't ask for) BUT we could not find the money for Two helicopters for the Mars Sample Return Mission which IS something they wanted & was a Decadal Survey priority.
Mars scientists have detailed, deliberate plans for what missions can give them the data they most want about the Red Planet. SkyFall's trio of helicopters (relying on the first-ever nuclear-propulsion spacecraft and mid-air deployment, all with a 2028 launch date!) is...not among them. 🧪 🔭
