@kerrinsuzanne.bsky.social @imgoph.bsky.social What's the best time of year to plant a new tree in my west-facing front yard? It's a windy spot, gets full sun, rocky soil, elevation 500', zone 7A. Would like a short-medium size tree that won't blow over in 20 years - any suggestions? Thank you!

I hate the way the media is framing this. It's not a "rift", or a "trade war", or a "dispute" - it's 100% attributable to Trump's unilateral and irrational desire to troll Canada using an outdated and stupid tariff regime. Call it what it is!

The USA is out of the foot sports thingey, so why is my timeline still filled with “Goal!” “Woo!” “Good save!”? I was hoping the phenomenon would at least subside a bit. 😬😭

It's unfortunate that pets, zoo animals, birds, and wildlife in general, can't wear noise-canceling headphones. :(
If you haven’t invested in noise-cancelling headphones (or a second home outside of DC), now might be the time to do so. DC’s July Fourth fireworks are going to start at 10:30 PM this year.
What Time Are DC's July 4 Fireworks Actually Happening?
Do they start at 10:30 or 11:00? Here's what we know—plus all the restrictions if you're going to the Mall.

I sincerely hope the next Democratic president, forcefully and unapologetically, wields all of the new powers and privileges the Supreme Court has granted the Executive Branch, as a means of rooting out every last Trump crony.

Seeing all the posts out of DC about flyovers, National Guard troops everywhere, fences, barriers, wrestling arena, etc - I’m really glad I moved a couple of counties away from the noise and chaos.
Looks like a flight of B–52s, apparently out of Barksdale, now approaching DC from the south.

Sounds like DC Bike Party!
Did You Know?

In Victorian era, enormous crowds gathered to watch dazzling nighttime “torchlight bicycle parades."

Cyclists decorated their bicycles with glowing lanterns, flowers, banners, and colored lamps before riding through dark city streets in elaborate processions.

Ugh, this is so true. 😩
About two thirty last night it occurred to me there is a significant chance that we are going to get another military parade after this fiasco.

All these headlines and post-SOTU articles are mundanely worded, and fitted into a traditional political narrative, continuing the sanewashing the media has been doing for Trump for years. What message? Deranged ranting? How about point out his repetitive lies using 4th grade vocabulary?
President Trump delivered his State of the Union. Now his challenge is to make that message stick. He gets the first opportunity to test drive it this week, when he travels to Texas, where the shift in the Latino vote toward Trump in 2024 highlighted how he had reshaped the Republican coalition.
President Donald Trump's post-State of the Union sales job begins now
President Donald Trump has a midterm year message to sell. Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday boasted about economic strength and a tougher America.

The worst thing about the threat of snow on Sunday, even if it doesn’t happen, is that cities & counties will spread excessive amounts of salt everywhere. All the recent rain has just washed all the streets, bike lanes & trails clean. 😩😭
Showers around early taper by mid- to late morning. Some clearing this afternoon. Mild temperatures today and tomorrow.

Some rain/snow Sunday with developing coastal storm. Could bring at least light accumulation to region by Sunday night.

Full forecast: www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2026...
CWG Live: Morning showers, then clearing; snow potential Sunday into Monday
Mild late today through tomorrow. A coastal storm Sunday into early Monday threatens to deliver snow to the region.
