My belief that NZ Labour simply don't want to win an election is getting stronger

Labour candidate living abroad says he’ll only return to NZ if elected
Chris Hipkins cannot confirm when list candidate Warrick Cleine will return.

The game I designed, 'Prestige!' is available now on Itch.io to download for free to print-and-play. There is a physical version coming from 'The Game Crafters' but a) it will be pricey and b) I have to see the physical product before I can authorise it. So, go to Itch! horansome.itch.io/prestige
Prestige! by horansome
A game of daring heists, deadly murders, and devilish extortions!

Sometimes you read a Wikipedia article only to find that it is basically a rewritten obituary: the entry for “Davy Kaye” is largely a lightly rewritten version of this obit from the Independent: www.independent.co.uk/news/obituar...
Obituary: Davy Kaye
Davy Kaye, comedian and actor; born London 25 April 1916; MBE 1995; married Hazel Wilson (one son; marriage dissolved); died Paradise Island, Bahamas 3 February 1998.

Assignment 5 of #SapphireAndSteel is the only story in the TV version of the show (there was a Big Finish audio series) not written by P. J. Hammond, and it is a little odd from memory. Let’s see how it holds up

Two acceptances based upon making minor revisions have arrived in my email inbox in the space of two days. On the one hand, this is great. On the other hand, it means I have to do some work

Wayne Brown is right to argue for the voting rights of appointed members to boards, etc., but wrong to argue that list MPs aren’t elected

What is it with NZ media and opinion writers having to needlessly (and inaccurately) state that bigots and extremists are “intelligent” when reporting on the junk they spout?

The ending of assignment 4 of #SapphireAndSteel has Steel tell Liz “Find every photograph taken of you and burn them. Never have another taken” which was scary enough at the time of broadcast but is chilling in it’s impossibility now

This season of “Always Sunny…” is quite terrible
September 14, 2026 at 7:24 AM
I love assignment 4 of #SapphireAndSteel but the threat of the man without a face is never adequately explained. The entity has been slumming itself around a lost-and-found shop for weeks and seems to pose no larger threat. It just seems to want to be left along to its own devices

Polls are a form of data, just not necessarily data that is useful to show or say what the public *in the aggregate* think or believe
ALL (publicly available NZ political) POLLS ARE BAD

media actively undermining their own justification mantra that "we have to do this for the clicks" & the only reason in this case is intentional protection of the ACT Party, again

outright collusion by every establishment media outlet to bury one of NZ's worst political party scandals of the decade
They cant even put his name or former position in the title, still..

@mrxdentith.com are going forward, not backward; upward, not forward; and always spiraling, spiraling, spiraling toward a very specific kind of AI psychosis. More fun than it sounds!

It's been 25 years since the 9/11 attacks, so obviously we're going to talk about AI. Does it pass the Turing Test? Is it conscious? Are there parasitic AI personas inducting their users into the secr

The problem with #TheXFiles, especially the early seasons, is that the government and big business have so many conflicting conspiracies going on that it is clear there is no over-arching plan

I can't take all the anti-euthanasia posts on here right now

And especially the characteristisation of us who are pro, for extremely fucking good reason. No we disabled sick people are presented as ableist and eugenist instead.

I’ve been thinking about this through the lens of my research into the rationality of belief in particular conspiracy theories, and I think the media is both colluding with and conned by right wing actors
Journalists mourned the political demise of Chris Penk, a man who holds a number of retrograde views, because he was seen as “sensible”. No wonder the more extreme political candidates are just treated as normal people just asking questions…
ACT & NZF have empowered these communities with their rhetoric, & National have aided that normalisation by continuing to work with both as they veer into conspiracy. Media have ignored this & refused to pressure rightwing politicians for at least the last 3 years - when they're not *amplifying* it

Any political party that does not actively reject this is effectively part of it.

Assignment 3 of #SapphireAndSteel done-and-dusted: it ends very abruptly, with a lot of plot dumped into the final episode. It’s a clever plot, but the uneven nature of the 5 episodes that precede it undermines all sense of tension
