My thought on AI review: lh3.github.io/2026/10/27/l...

TL;DR: journals are banning fully AI-generated review and I think that is the right decision
Let's talk about AI review

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

The main takeaway for me was to not to engage with the fascists‘ content. We need to stop giving oxygen to the firestorm of fake news and bullshit.
Everyone thought Lula was cooked, hopeless. Then he bought a phone and started posting and now he's gonna get a 4th term. The lesson is to never stop posting.

I will not forget that Zuckerberg and Facebook shut down the accounts of the most popular presidential candidate in one of the largest democracies in the world, and he was elected anyway

please, American friends, with collective power we can dismantle the grip tech oligarchs have on our lives!!! Brazil just proved that.

Despite illegal US intervention, manipulation of Meta’s algorithms to favor Bolsonaro Jr., opposition from Brazil’s largest television network, and the politicization of Brazil’s electoral court, the impossible happened.

LULA, PRESIDENT OF BRAZIL! 🇧🇷

Against all odds, democracy prevailed.

This is also a huge black eye for Marco Rubio too, who has wanted to reshape Latin America into right-leaning governments
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva came from behind to win Brazil’s runoff election, halting a right-wing wave sweeping Latin America and defying predictions that the 80-year-old political veteran had finally reached the end of his extraordinary career. bloom.bg/4BsvV24

I guess just as a starter, LLMs aren't our "peers," so whatever they are doing isn't peer review.whether it's interesting or valuable or bad or whatever. Who knows, maybe there are good reasons beyond metrics for scientific critique to occur among humans?

Some of my thoughts about the surge in AI-generated papers, why this feels like a completely new kind of problem, and what this means for how we evaluate science in biology.

Out now in PLOS Biology:

What is biology research for?
In the age of generative artificial intelligence (AI), the assumption that writing a paper requires doing science no longer holds true. Before deciding how to respond to the surge of AI-generated pape...

It's been 30 years (!!!) since the conceptualization of GWAS.

GWAS has driven tons of discoveries, but with recent experimental developments (CRISPR, single-cell omics), we thought it was time to think about how to drive the next 30 years of human genetics.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment.
