"Anyone wanna go plant endangered native plants that are illegal to remove on the land they want to build data centers?" "Environmental scientist here. Plant Elderberry shrubs Sambucus spp, which are native to North America. It's illegal to remove them because they provide habitat to Valley Elderberry Longhorn Beetles, which are federally protected by the Endangered Species Act."

artistic rendition of how my cat fell asleep this morning
MS paint art of a black and white cat sleeping. Text points to her reading "holding her peets" and "having a really good dream".

I can't believe we're going back to this kind of discourse but:
Using references isn't cheating
Using 3D mannequins and photo references is STANDARD, even for professional artists
Shaming people and pushing them to draw exclusively from memory is harmful and can set back people who are learning

Cw: blood, body horror, gore
Jigen as a scary monster. Inspiration board has a picture of Ratmaa (?), two werewolves from The Quarry, and Wendigo Hannah from Until Dawn. The drawing on the left depicts monster Jigen looking through a tall rectangular window. The drawing on the right is of Jigen in his entirety. He is very tall and lanky, standing in a hunched posture, one that mimics an ape. His eyes are pale and milky, glazed over and unfocused. His nails are long. Lupin with thick vines sprouting from his throat, the vines dangle his limp body above the ground. One vine is thrashing towards the point of view. Blood drools from the corner of his mouth. An image of Moonfish from my hero academia is in the corner. Goemon sits naked in a bathtub. The water is pink, and in it, one eyeball floats, staring up. His face hangs from his chin, tearing itself slowly off of his head. His hair covers what is left of it. The water is foggy and dirty. Next to the tub is a black bath mat, littered with lost teeth.

I feel like Erik Svetoft's SPA snuck past a lot of people's radars, and it's a shame, it's an incredible comic about a trip to a totally normal getaway spa. incredible creature design, darkly funny, surreal and wandering
One of the covers to SPA by Erik Svetoft. A woman in a bathrobe stands in a hallway, a giant head glaring behind her. it's all in red. two friendly repair people amongst a sea of pipes a cavalcade of swine-like monsters

Aces
/more art below but WARNING for gore; decapitation, blood, and eye contact
Portraits of Lupin the Third and Zenigata Koichi as the ace of hearts (zenigata) and diamonds (lupin). Lupin smiles big and wide, his teeth are white and straight (mostly), his eyes are large but squinting with the strain of his smile. Zenigata looks almost dead, his eyes are glazed and he frowns, each eye almost staring in separate directions. I tried to make Zenigata’s body form a sort of heart (didnt come out looking as such) and a diamond for lupin (carried over better with him).

“I’m gonna give you the slip”
#LupinII #Zenigata
Zenigata from Lupin the Third preparing to toss a coin, before stopping and staring at the point of view in disbelief. He looks like he’s seen a ghost. Lupin the Third staring at the point of view nervously. Four Lupins depicted, one is large and in the foreground with a hand holding up three fingers and the other on his hip. Top right is a vampire Lupin with blood dripping from his mouth and openly smiling downwards. To the left is a normal and un assuming Lupin looking to his left. At the leftmost of the image is fake Lupin from zenigata and the two Lupins looking off to the left and grinning. Three drawing depicting how I think zenigata would draw himself. He is grumpy with boxy shapes and angular lines. In one drawing he is holding a steaming coffee mug and smoking a large cigarette. To the right the is a confused zenigata looking to his left while writing. The last doodle is of Zenigata with big open eyes and long eyelashes, as well as little flowers decorating next to him.
