Something fascinating in current debates about single sex spaces and resources is the complete refusal to acknowledge that trade offs and compromises will have to be made, and that individuals might unavoidably suffer some detrimental consequences as a result of decisions they have freely made.

Lee - this is not on point but you are an ally and I dont understand why no one is talking the Good Law Project having completely destroyed trans womens rights in the workplace!? This has been an absolute disaster and no one is holding anyone to account on it!?!? 😞 ❤️ 💙

Allison Bailey v Stonewall is going to the Supreme Court. It will be fascinating to see whether @stonewalluk.bsky.social takes the opportunity to make sure that trans voices are heard in our apex court.

In the latest update to the Equal Treatment Bench Book, chapter 12, ¶48 is a breath of fresh air: '"Assigned at birth" is used by trans people (and others) instead of biological sex, but is not widely understood, and it is therefore to be avoided by judges.'

Incredible how much bitter ad hominen there is in the comments from academics who haven't been directly quoted by the Supreme Court in one of the highest profile cases it's ever decided. Mystifying. Puts me in mind of this para from Jo Phoenix's ET judgment.

Breasts don’t know or care what they are attached to. They just function as per the instructions they receive.
Lots of women can’t lactate. Many cultures employ or employed wet nurses.
What harm do you suggest is occurring?

The answer was no. No-one wanted to try to explain to me why men getting infants to suck on their nipples might (even sometimes) be ok.
On balance I suppose I find that faintly reassuring, in a rather bleak way.

I am struggling to imagine circumstances in which it would be in the best interests of an infant to be "breastfed" by a male person who has been induced to lactate. I failed my maths degree, but some things stuck, including "confession of failure of the imagination does not amount to proof".

Jolyon Maugham KC has blocked me, but posted that the guardian article about Melanie Field shows UKSC in FWS v Scottish ministers is constitutionally wrong. For a KC to suggest something so legally illiterate in statutory interpretation is bizarre. My explanation why medium.com/@scott-wortl...
