There is No Place for Us by @brian-goldstone.bsky.social is the most consequential book about housing since Evicted.

Whatever mental model you have about who goes unhoused likely vastly undercounts the number of working people with no where to live.

This is excellent analysis from CSIS.

The US was forced to abandon its naval bases in the region, ceded control over Hormuz to Iran, and now the mouth of the Red Sea has fallen under control of rebels in Yemen, threatening traffic through the Suez Canal.

I saw people vague posting earlier about the passing of someone from my circles back home.

I just got the word and I'm absolutely devastated.

THE POWER TO TAX BELONGS TO CONGRESS

ARTICLE I, SECTION 8
The US President's new proposal to tax international students has been approved by the White House for release this week.

It's an unprecedented $100,000 tax on int'l grads who stay to work after graduation on Optional Practical Training (most grads do), a crucial bridge to remaining by any channel.

My Sounders indicator of the moment:

No one in what used to be a Sounders-centric group chat even mentioned the match versus LA Galaxy this weekend.

Items mentioned instead: Manchester Derby, Wednesday's result in League One, Chelsea vs United in WSL, hella Maptap results, and Lanterns.

Housing really is a fulcrum for all kinds of issues. For most folks, it’s the heart of affordability.

Don’t be fooled by all the chatter about gas prices - rent or mortgage ultimately frames most personal spending decisions.

A former student reached out to this week and reveled that before entering my classroom at fifteen their family had moved thirty times.

Today I aspired to go to breakfast with some friends, brunch with other friends, and a Lebowski themed birthday with a third set of friends.

I absolutely didn't make it.

The US President collected billions in illegal tariffs, the cost of which were passed on to consumers.

Then when the tariffs were ruled illegal he refunded $166 billion to corporations.

That's wealth transfer equivalent to the total GDP of Slovakia.

And it's not even a scandal.

The first thing I read this morning is that the US President is now specifically targeting oil tankers and Iran is vowing to do the same in reprisal in Kuwait and Bahrain.

This could be an environmental disaster.
