The fun of journalism as a whole right now — not just games — is that everybody is starved for work so execs can get away with underpaying freelancers. That's how content mills like Valnet stay in business. Then those freelancers will be laid off and others will take their place at lower pay
Yes its fundamentally stupid for IGN to layoff senior staff before the biggest video game in our lifetimes drop.
It's not stupid tho if you're an exec who thinks they can fill that gap with the legion of hungry freelancers with no where to go
