Power puts people's lives within reach of its decisions. We should demand leaders who answer for whose safety they protect, whose dignity they respect, and whose voice they hear.

Press freedom is not a privilege granted to journalists. It is the public’s right to witness power.

A restriction protecting a patient is not the same as one protecting an officeholder from criticism.

Each citizen gets a vote. Citizens do not get equal access to policymakers.

“The Price of Being Heard” examines research on campaign donors, policy influence, and stewardship as a standard for public office.

“If you have more, it doesn’t mean I have less.”

Mayor Catherine Read argues that America must move beyond the scarcity mentality that makes another person’s prosperity or security feel like a threat to our own.

Oh FFS. This is an example of the 'waste fraud and abuse', acting as poor stewards of the office and nation by wasting time, energy, and dollars on pettiness.

How can one see this as anything value generating?

What does this do for Americans?

Improve lives or put down the pen.

Our own moment can feel uniquely frightening because it is the only one we have lived through.

Mayor Catherine Read argues that realism and hope are not opposites. We must face the present clearly and still act to make the future better.

Some young Americans say, “I was born in 2000. I’ve never lived in a democracy.”

Mayor Catherine Read doesn’t dismiss that despair. She says older generations bear responsibility, but young people still have the power to change this country.

Mutual aid can be beautiful. It is also an indictment when institutions expect private conscience to absorb their failures. We have conscripted those most willing to care into becoming infrastructure.

We treat rural decline and urban blight as separate American failures. That division is politically useful.

Wealth consumes opportunities. People are made to absorb the consequences. Then they are judged for the damage.

But a common country must be commonly worked upon.

Experience matters, but it cannot become indefinite possession. We need reasonable limits, neutral capacity standards, and an end to the revolving door.

Individuals should not possess the wealth of nations. Real or notional.

This isn't a radical idea.

It's self-preservation for individual and societal freedoms. Such wealth is self-serving and extinguishes anything that does not serve it. Innovation, meaningful dissent, choices.
