worldspace (spatial fragment shader) halftone overlay, but halftones are kept at a consistent density regardless of distance/depth. the halftone texture is applied in hmm "object screen space" (?? not sure what to call this) so it doesn't swim as you move around.

Not too surprised by this at the end of the day but umm if you do this in #Godot in a spatial fragment shader:
if (false) { ALPHA = *anything* };
... you're still gonna end up in the transparent queue. Hope that saves you ~10+ minutes of hairpulling some day ...
