You aren’t accepting this word? Do all my 1970s high school grammar lessons mean *nothing* to you, #NYTspellingbee? #spellingbee

My feelings about today’s omission of a perfectly good word (and pangram!) from the #NYTSpellingBee are UNNAMEABLE. #spellingbee

Nice observation on #writing, from Margaret Atwood:

“[I]f you write something down on a page, it’s not set in stone. You can change it. Which everybody does. It’s called revision for a reason: you are seeing it again.”

This was an unusually satisfying — and aesthetic — endgame win. I just played a2-a4, leading to a zugzwang position with many symmetrical features. #chess

#nytspellingbee Post-college, I clerked at a big newspaper. One of my weekly duties was to copy each department’s list of planned stories, then assemble sets of those lists for an editorial meeting. Copiers were primitive, so I had to assemble the sets by hand. Yes — I was a COLLATOR. #spellingbee

Once again, the #NYTspellingbee refuses to recognize a standard math term. This time, it’s MINUEND, the quantity from which another quantity is subtracted. Did they play hooky during their math classes? #spellingbee

Now reading: The Handmaid’s Tale. (Current events finally compelled me.)

I’d heard enough to be prepared for the particular type of dystopia it depicts. What I was *unprepared* for was Atwood’s brilliant writing. Every paragraph, every sentence, every word serves a purpose … and serves it well.

This math teacher is a bit perplexed by the #nytspellingbee rejecting the common statistical term DECILE. #spellingbee

Nothing like the rush of finding an impressively long pangram in the #nytspellingbee … accompanied by the shock of seeing that familiar word not be accepted.

You could even say those two emotions are CONCOMITANT.

Just imagine what Hunter S. Thompson would be writing about all of this.

@inquirer.com I got overbilled for my subscription, and customer service stopped responding after an initial email exchange. Suggestions?

Favorite moment of the #xpncountdown: Eva Cassidy’s goosebumps-inducing rendition of “Fields of Gold” appearing at #68.

I’d despaired when it hadn’t shown up before the top 100, but now I’ve regained faith that it is as well known as it deserves.

Glad to hear The Flying Lizards on the #XPNcountdown!

Loving the #XPNcountdown!

Only 1 of my 10 songs has played so far (#AlisonKrauss & Union Station, “When You Say Nothing At All”).

Biggest happy surprise: #TalkingHeads are all the way up in 4th on the most-covered list.

Prediction/hope: #JoniMitchell will rise dramatically in the later stages. 🎶

While biking yesterday, we saw this tiny baby turtle crossing the paved path. We stopped and made sure it reached the underbrush on the other side. #turtles

Oh my god! This is one of the most powerful speeches I've heard, right up there with Corey Booker's commencement speech at my daughter's college graduation!
If you need some inspiration about effecting change, please watch.
