If news orgs hadn’t been closing foreign bureaus & cutting international reporting budgets they’d be better sourced and positioned to truly cover what’s happening in the Middle East.

Target had built up a reputation of doubling down on diversity efforts in very visible ways that were perceived as a core tenet of their values as a company. They also created an in-store experience that people embraced that also featured that diversity. Amazon’s brand did not connect in that way.
