Look, I know I’m being reactive and irrationally angry. But men are the ones that write about these things. Men are the only culture critics left with steady gigs. Men are steering the conversation. Men are saying they’re mad about the things that happen and i wonder when they will do anything.
sorry but seeing men write positive pieces about Shane Gillis' latest run at SNL, where is opening monologue was "women dress like whores now" after the weeks we've had of women yet again pouring a collective trauma about violence at the hands of men that trade on these same sentiments is fucked.

i love meeting people who have a very cursory understanding of trans women and operate out of kindness based on the stereotypes they have absorbed and someone said “oh I like your wig“ to me today as if I went to the store asked for something in a older but not yet old woman on day 6 of a wash week

a lot of big, hard pieces on the state of things came out today, and I really loved and felt so much of this one from @tajjaisen.bsky.social
You may have heard that nonfiction's having a rough time. I investigated for @thewalrus.ca. And it's very true, but not for the reasons you might think.

Directly to this, I had decent Interest from other publishers on a first book, but a lot of them wanted to tell me the kind of book they thought I should write. U Texas press asked me what I wanted to do and never tried to steer me into a “marketable” lane and the book was better for it
Really enjoyed this piece, which implicitly suggests another good reason to support small and university presses as much as you can: many of them are the ones willing and ready to take chances on nonfiction books that big five publishers are more than ever too scared to take on.

Outside of how sad it is to see any workplace, especially one that is so publicly beloved for its internal culture and transparency, engage in union busting, this is such a good, thorough look at how workers try to unionize at places like this and is well worth a read
Inside The Failed Fight To Unionize Double Fine
Double Fine employees petitioned for a union in May. It created a rift in the studio that still hasn't healed

Someone whose weird dog was off leash and bothering mine in the park told me to relax because “Gordon (somehow a dogs name) feeds off anger” and sorry but was your dog granted to you in a wish/curse scenario?

spoiler for the article but people do have kids, they're just trapped in a terrifying and vexing maze

I think the problem is we let the computer do too many things. When I was a kid the computer was only good for learning the home row and playing Sim City and that's where it should have ended.

Sad to see artists of any level using AI visuals in their shows, but especially artists that could afford not to, and for whom the visual aesthetic is important. Like why is DJ Shadow doing AI visuals at sold out shows at the club Drake owns?

being sober is great, every year someone finds a new condescending way to sell water
great news, fam—they finally found a way to make hard seltzer without the alcohol

at the start of the year, everyone should have to choose their outfits for the year in a big draft. you only get 9 shirts for the year, and if you don't like them that's not the department of shirts and associated arms' problem. Every year you submit all your clothes on naked day and draft again
