AI is finding bugs faster than anyone can fix them. Node.js has fixed 50 vulnerabilities this year, a record.

Finding a flaw takes minutes. Fixing it takes maintainers.

Node.js 26 “Lithium” is now LTS! 🎉

v26.13.0 is out, with updates through April 2029.

Upgrading from an earlier LTS? Since Node.js 25, the official Linux binaries link against libatomic, so you may need to install it separately.

Do all security vulnerabilities need to be fixed in private?

With support from the Sovereign Tech Agency, OpenJS is using @nodejs.org to research whether some vulnerabilities can be remediated faster through normal open development without increasing security risk.

Finding vulnerabilities is only part of the work. Maintainers still need resources to triage, patch, and ship secure releases.

The new OpenJS Security Stewardship Program will fund researchers and maintainers, starting with Node.js.
